A good slug of Woodford Reserve Bourbon, with two blocks of ice.

Sadly, on way home now. Train journey dictated time to go. Great to see best mates again. Now spring is here, it'll be a more regular gathering again

I used to live in Woodford County. It’s interesting that it’s only 6-7 years old, but unlike any other bourbon I’m aware of, the building it was traditionally aged in has steam heat and multiple seasons were replicated, so it tastes and feels older. In recent years they’ve built several new warehouses and I don’t know if they are heated or not. The hot part of the season pulls the flavor out of the wood. Replicate it enough and it simulates many seasons of aging.

Here’s a look at the new warehouses:

If you look down the road towards Kentucky River, you’ll see Castle & Key, Glenn reek, and Old Crow distilleries. All either crumbling, gone, or rebuilt, and all with no telling how many former names. I believe Castle &Key is the new name of the E H Taylor Distillery. And the Old Crow is actually owned by Jim Beam and stores a variety of Beam brands. Glenn Creek is in ruins.

There is a very long brick building at E H Taylor that at one time was one of the largest brick buildings in the world. I heard the largest, but I doubt that.

Not far from there in Franklin County where Frankfort the state capitol is located, is the Old Grandad Distillery:

And of course Buffalo Trace, or as I always knew it Ancient Age Distillery:

I never drank any of the Old Foresters until scarcity and pricing issues arose in the early 2010’s. Since, I’ve had numerous versions and they are all good bourbons, especially at their cost. The orange label Signature is a fantastic affordable house bourbon.

That's my only issue with bourbon. It's absurd they way prices get inflated so quickly on a lone article or recommendation.

Earl Grey. Decaffeinated, though, obviously, as I don't want to get over-stimulated.

Just bought a 12 of this. Session beer is the new light beer. This is great in the summer and an easy drinker. Going the session route because I’m counting calories. 17 lbs down so far, another 13 lbs to go!

4.7% ABV is hardly light in my book. It would be a pretty short lived session, surely.

I had a bottle of Adnams Lighthouse this evening which is 3.4% ABV that is more in the session category.

I didn’t even look at the ABV. I was thinking purely of the calories, and that’s where this comes in “lighter” (marginally) than the beers I typically drink. I was trying to make a joke about the term session. Swing and a miss I guess! ⚾️
