What are the “Must Read” Threads for new members to the forum?

Post by jkbarnes »

This post is prompted by a comment I made over on Ferg’s latest SOTC post regarding a question about his Rolex. It got me thinking about some of my favorite threads on the forum, my “Must Reads,” if you will. So I’m curious, what are your favorite threads on the forum, the ones you think tell a fantastic story or just have a wow factor. It could be an amazing first post with the comments to follow or perhaps a whole thread that developed a fascinating life of its own.

Link to the threads you really love and enjoy below. And if this has been done before (has it?), I’m sure someone will link to that, bringing this thread to a close!

I’ll start the ball rolling with two of my favorites…

The Liquid Filled Kingfisher C6

This thread is marvelous! It’s the story of a member converting his Kingfisher into an oil filled watch. It’s incredibly technical but beautifully and simply explained, with amazing photos to boot!

1928 Rolex Tank, Ref. 912

This is the story of Ferg’s (@MiniMpi) Rolex Tank, how it came to him and his journey to restore/refurbish it. It’s a heartwarming read.

Keep up, there’s a sticky to the thread reference thread in the off topic section.

However this thread goes to show it’s not as memorable as it could be and it would be great if more of us can add to it when we see threads worth highlighting.

What’s funny is that a did a quick (obviously too quick) skim of the forum looking for something like this. I looked in the wrong place though.

Per the forum rules, I started a new thread rather than revive an old, dead one. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!

18.1 If a thread has been dormant for a considerable time, it’s better to link to and/or start a new one in most cases.

^^^^^ was it down to following the forum rules? Or was it down to forum activities after beer o’clock, Pimm’s o’clock, wine o’clock, or whiskey o’clock?

Tongue in cheek, I thought of posting this yesterday. The most essential reading for new (and not so new) members:

Especially the threads circled!
