There should be an apostrophe in the last post. I just found it '

Re: Weddings... don't they cost a fortune
Congratulations.
I got married a bit over a year ago. The lead up to the wedding was all consuming but it was a great day. My one piece of advice: The correct answer is always "Yes". Also, I don't know if these exist in the UK, but a "Bridal Showcase" (basically a vendor show of wedding things) is a horrid experience except for all the free cake samples. Develop a cold if there is a possibility you may have to go to one of these.
I managed to wrangle a watch out of the deal as a wedding gift (oh, yes, and a wife). Definitely push for that C900 !

Married 11years ago and we fortunately had some parental help with the cost. Yes it's an important day, but remember there is always a mark up when the word wedding is spoken to the venue/photographer/florist/car hire. Make sure the day is what you want, keep it intimate, you'll never please all your friends and family. The day is a whirlwind, you'll have barely 5mins to chat to each of those friends who've travelled, or that Aunt who's arguing with a cousin you last saw at a funeral.
Focus on each other and spend some money on a nice honeymoon. That's what I remember most from our wedding

Likewise, trekking in Borneo much more interesting than wedding cake

i am so glad my wife wanted to essentially elope. we had the ceremony in our living room and then went on a cruise with a handful of immediate family and everyone paid their own way.
but everyone has their own way to celebrate and the only wrong way is the one you don't want to go.
