Wearing the sponsor's watch

Post by Noush »

Something I somehow couldn't miss on the F1 coverage over the weekend.

The teams have their sponsor watch brands and in the post-race interviews the drivers of course are wearing them.
McLaren - Richard Mille, Merc-AMG - IWC, Williams - Bremont and so on.

So Max Verstappen is wearing his TAG-Heuer Monaco as he does for the interview sessions.
Camera flips to his girlfriend Kelly Piquet (whose Dad is also 3 x F1 champ) and a very clear view of her AP Royal Oak, if I am not mistaken a classic 15202 which she pulls off better than me somehow (I've tried one on). OK, so I am a geek....

I noticed that, too, and thanks for confirming it was a Royal Oak.

One thing I see, that always gives me a wry smile, is that Lewis Hamilton has an IWC Big Pilot design on his gloves, as if he's wearing one; maximum exposure.

And it surprises me that this hasn't, so far as I know, lead to influencers wearing their watches over their gloves, shirt sleeves and jumpers :headbash: :headbash:

Whatever the heritage in the watch world from earlier times I always feel that TAG-H is no longer exactly premier league in today's watch world. Maybe Max doesn't care about watches but to me there's a mis-match between his status as top driver and a watch which isn't exactly top shelf.

Well back in the day, one rather known influencer was ahead of his time…

I wonder if Romain Grosjean's watch sponsor got a rebate after his fiery exit the other year? I would imagine his gloves got scorched whilst making his miraculous escape.
