Watch scratch pens??

Post by downer »

Annoyingly, I have managed to put a scratch/mark on my Cave Dweller...

Image

(the marks on the crystal are only fingerprints :D ).

Does anyone know if these scratch pens would be effective on this tye of mark?

Yes, I have had good results with this kind of mark and pen, but it's not very easy, you have to replicate the brush-finish and direction....

Yep I have used them. Just take your time and make sure you follow the direction of the brushed finish

I have one of these pens, very good results, but have a practice first on a hidden area to perfect your technique.

Be very careful, the 'brush' is made of glass so if (sorry, when) bits of it come away and you catch them in your skin they can be pushed into the skin leaving very sore areas and which can be almost impossible to remove.

Wear Gloves and Eye Protection, and do it over an old newspaper which is binned afterward.

I assume this is a regular glass fiber brush that you use to clean pcb and smt parts prior to soldering? if so getting them from non watch sites might be cheaper

for the UK

http://maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=3932

and I suspect fry's or similar in the US would carry them.

Ebay has then at about £4 delivered.

I dont know they are identical, but they look basically to be the same to me, just trying to help save them pennies towards another watch :)

I did. Here is the before and after...

The pictures are not great, but hopefully you can see that the mark near "55" has magically disappeared. :D

Good work. I might have to invest in one of these.

Most of the time these little guys turn up in "starter" watch kits, they dont cost much for the tools you get and aren't as rubish as people may think. Just may start you off in a new direction of tinkering :)
I miss all the great things that may never be.
