I no longer wear a high profile 6 digit Rolex in London.
Cost or reference no.?
I just try to wear something other than one with a ceramic bezel (I don’t have exotic gold ones), I don’t think the older 5 digit stuff is a particular target, so happily still wear those.
No rhyme or reason, I just generally get a calling. One watch seems to shout louder than the others, and that's the one that makes its way to my wrist. There's nothing systematic about it, purely impulse.

Wealth is the least meaningful metric by which to judge a person's value.
There’s a seasonality to it. If it is or will become hot and there is risk of sweating I will wear something on a bracelet or rubber. During colder seasons I expand the choices to include leather straps.
Apart from this: whim with an eye to where I’m going.
I have enough watches to try and switch them up once in awhile. It could be at my whim, daily, weekly. It’s good to get each of them some wear. As I am often at home there is no driving factor to push for a change. Some activities might call for a more toolish watch (garden work, boating, sports, etc) and I have options to pick. Chalk it up to whim, mostly.

I follow a two stage approach when deciding what to wear.
. . . . . . . .
It works for me but then I’ve only ever got 6 or 7 watches. It might take Guy all day if he used this method.
On the 'open the box and see what takes my fancy' tack.
If I happen to be looking at changing watch at some stage during the day, I will open one of my boxes, look at the watches and see which one has stopped closest to the current time i.e. will need the least amount of adjustment to the correct time once it's running.

Guy, you are maybe one of a couple of forum members that require this follow up question.
What happens when some watches have stopped at the same time?
Iain’s Law: Any discussion on the Christopher Ward forum, irrespective of the thread title or subject matter, will eventually lead to someone mentioning the Bel Canto if the thread continues for long enough.
I'm a big fan of colour in a watch, I don't have any monochromatic choices to play with, so outfit colour plays a part in choice. If I'm wearing an outfit on the greyscale, it's a great opportunity to wear the purple pieces. Trainers with orange accents - break out an orange watch.
I also like to wear a watch for a fair number of days, this ties up with doing clothes washing in batches of similar colours, making it easy.
Risk of damage (going somewhere dodgy, working on cars, building work) no watch.
I make a choice tonight for tomorrow's watch as it usually requires winding and setting.
Maybe I've taken delivery of a watch? I'll try to run that for more than 4 days straight: wanting to keep going with it or wanting to change at or before day 4 usually tells me something.
Largely gone are my times of evening socialising so usually I'm choosing for my own pleasure rather than "dress to impress"
There's an element of choosing to suit different activities but I can achieve more by slipping the watch off for the duration.
If going away I'll choose a chrono for the travelling days and maybe 1 watch per away day.
