Want a 5hr podcast about Rolex? Here you go!

Post by missF »

Acquired
(subtext Every Company Has a Story)
have done a 5hr podcast on the history of Rolex....

 :silent:

Go with me! I'm half way through and enjoying it hugely. The two presenters are so well read and researched, so interested in their material, bounce off of each other so effortlessly, and most importantly are wonderful storytellers. And they're not just talking about the dry corporate history of the company - they're discussing the whole history of wristwatches and the technical innovations. Which includes pretty much the whole of 20th century world political and economic history.

You know how CW (and others) say 'It's all about the product' ? Well, sometimes it's just about the story. Every current watchmaker has roots in this story.

I defy any watchie to not find something of interest here!

I will listen to this, but no time today.
I like the written preamble which suggests maybe it's not just a hagiography.

It's not hagiography :)

Edit : but it is all about Rolex. So it's quite Rolex-centric

Thanks for sharing @missF! Not only does the Rolex one look interesting, there are plenty of other episodes that I would listen to as well, and hadn't heard of this podcast before.
I post a few watch pictures now and then to a little Instagram account - 16 followers and counting!

Just found it and listened to the first minute…

Is it ok to listen to when not wearing a Daytona? :)

5 hours. I am wondering about the reaction from Mrs nbg if I suggest playing it during a long car journey!

@nbg - you have to get past the pair of them wrist-checking their Daytonas to get to the good stuff

And honestly? I'm enjoying a good story well told - I don't know if that's stretching it a bit for Mrs nbg but I could listen to a good story well told about many things I have no direct interest in :D

Thanks for sharing Lindsey. Is this broken down into manageable chapters? Or do you need to set aside 5 hours so you don’t get lost when you have to break off?
Iain’s Law: Any discussion on the Christopher Ward forum, irrespective of the thread title or subject matter, will eventually lead to someone mentioning the Bel Canto if the thread continues for long enough.

If it’s downloadable it might be ideal for a longish flight.

There are several breaks along the way for bigging up their sponsors, and I think they would make a good place for breaks.

I don't listen to many podcasts.... I came across this one via a Hodinkee article. I agree it's really informative though. I'm sure that there will be other forumites who can recommend us some more watchy podcasts?
