Erm, I live in one of those scary places... :(

Just because I'm not a chav / student doesn't mean I can afford to live somewhere nice, y'know. I spend all my money on watches!

I read yesterday that Tesco will be doing spray tans "while you shop"
That's me out, then. The only non-fruity thing in my world that's "orange" is my phone, and it's gonna stay that way!
Apologies to owners and admirers of orange watches! 8)

So how does that work, do they give you a head in a jar 'ala Futurama' to do your shopping for you, or does the bimbo with the paint gun follow you up & down the aisles while you push your trolley in paper pants

As a Waitrose customer it is well worth the extra pennies not to be reduced to quivering homicidal maniac status by the shopping 'experience'...

Supermarkets depress me. I live in a county which has some of the best farmland in the country, adjacent to the county which is known as the 'Garden of England' and within five minutes of the sea and every time I am in Tescos/Sainsburys/Morrisons/Marks and Sparks I find myself looking at produce from Kenya or Libya or some such place many, many miles away, thinking where did it all go wrong? In addition, the checkouts are no longer the happy, stress free place they used to be as I am invariably served by a funny haired chap who grunts or a girl who doesn't seem to know how to pronounce her words properly, or I am surrounded by sweaty stressed people tutting and complaining. Even if we do the right thing and get our fruit and veg from the Thursday market or our fish from the net huts in the Old Town or our meat from the splendid, sole remaining old fashioned butcher, we know we are in a minority and these local suppliers are on the brink of extinction.

Ahh- I wondered where you had gotten to. Hope you had a great holiday. Whenever we go to Wales, we always have dinner at the local pub, the Tyn y Gros and I always have rib-eye 28 day matured steak and from local herds. Lovely.

I honestly think I would go postal if I had to spend more than a day or two without internet access.
I am a product / addict of the modern age and not afraid to admit it!
That food sounded lovely, though. :)

Today I had the best meal I have had for ages.

The Red Lion in Cricklade, Wiltshire. The venison and mushroom pie was out of this world. A proper pie made with shortcrust pastry, not just stew in a bowl with a puff pastry lid! The missus had the burger which was great and my little lad with his ham, egg and chips said that the chips were the best he has ever tasted but he is only 5 and not had many chips:lol:

All the food is sourced within 20 or so miles of the pub and it shows, rare breed meats, local butcher's sausages etc. We will definitely be going back. Oh and surprise, surprise it's in the good pub guide!

I live in Edinburgh. Being the classy, upwardly mobile and popular capital city of Scotland, I have a choice of two waitrose stores, several Sainsburys and, If i really must shop at 2am, a few ASDA's too.

Most of my shopping is done at the local Tesco though, its not one the crazy extra ones and has recently had a costa coffee installed. Being in one of the nicer parts of town, I manage to avoid the riff raff fairly easily ;)

Although one does feel there should be more specific BMW parking in Tesco's. I found I had to park next to some kind of Ford the other day. I was not impressed.
