Maybe it is that simple, as my son says to me..if it looks like a duck, it quacks like a duck...it's probably a duck.reggie747 wrote:Yeah but the snake in question - his particular profile/details would probably look fine. Ultimately, it is the buyer's decision whether to buy a particular watch and part of their decision making will likely be the seller's details/profile. If you don't like anything about the watch and/or the seller then don't buy it.

But by viewing a listing of the member's posts in his profile, you will have an idea of his contributions to the forum. Read a selection of said posts and then weigh him or her up.reggie747 wrote:Yeah but the snake in question - his particular profile/details would probably look fine. Yep, so it does ask what would be the point of fees, further restrictions etc...Kip wrote:Could this not be true anyone here?reggie747 wrote:Yeah but the snake in question - his particular profile/details would probably look fine. If people really want to make it "safer" then impose a ban on anything but trade transaction. No PPG no bank transfer. Currently the buyer takes all the risk however if its sold as paying for goods buyer is covered by paypal.

For what it is worth, I do actually feel a bit sorry for the bloke, and he does have some nice watches to sell.
I think he got carried away and it all unraveled. I do not think that it was ever meant to be malicious, however, someone could have purchased the watch thinking it was the real deal.
But.....
There are some there who are indeed malicious and deliberately attempt to miss sell and deceive in the search for profit.
It is a bit of a minefield when dealing with high end and or vintage watches.
Just look how many listings start with the word.... "RARE".

Re: Using the forum as a free sales platform
You need to read the TZUK thread to get a full understanding of what happened in H&V.
Saying that though as I said, post count would not solve a thing in this case nor would charging someone as a trader.
***edit***
This was flagged up at the time and the mods let him sell on here.

Re: Using the forum as a free sales platform
Which is why I wouldn't undertake an online purchase of high end brands. Too much chance of not getting the real deal. Even with box and papers very dubious as boxes can be bought (fellows auctions sell boxes & copies are available) and I've seen paperwork available. I've had a look at some of the threads with fakes posted on TZ-UK and I really don't have enough knowledge and experience to see all the defects (I think it's a little club that sniggers at those like me that can't).smegwina wrote:...It is a bit of a minefield when dealing with high end and or vintage watches..

I guess I've been pretty lucky in that I bought my vintage Sub and Speedy on eBay. They both tick along just fine with new batteries.

Re: Using the forum as a free sales platform
There are quite a few antique dealers online that sell vintage watches and a few I have bought from have been considerably better than some of the junk on ebay. Likewise, there are a few well known gray market dealers for higher end watches that can be trusted as well as quite a few dealers on mainland Europe who are cheaper than the UK.st-rider wrote:Which is why I wouldn't undertake an online purchase of high end brands. Re: Using the forum as a free sales platform
Thanks Nick that was an interesting read. I'd stay well clear of anything he's selling in the future, you buy the seller as much as the watchsmegwina wrote:This is why we need to be careful who is flogging their tat on here and why this thread is relevant.
