TV Box Set Recommendations
Re: TV Box Set Recommendations
hmmm..there seems to be a tendency to judge the quality of a series by the quality of the totty on view...sorry guys but a piece of **** is a piece of **** not matter how cute the cherry on top..
Re: TV Box Set Recommendations
Totally agree. However Buffy and Angel aren't in that category. Both are well written and acted and have a story arc that keeps you watching. Some of the episodes are fillers, you get that in any show, but some are genre classics. If you get the chance watch Hush from Season 4 and The Body from Season 5.highway61 wrote:hmmm..there seems to be a tendency to judge the quality of a series by the quality of the totty on view...sorry guys but a piece of **** is a piece of **** not matter how cute the cherry on top..
Without giving away spoilers, there are parts in The Body that are very hard to watch for anyone who's had a similar experience; that includes me. That's not the supernatural bits btw.

I agree completely on both buffy and angel, though early buffy is definitely more teen based than the later stuff and angel is, from it's outset, aimed at a more adult audience..
but spartacus?? c'mon!!

Have you seen the episode where they find the dead vampire surrounded by sausage rolls, cheese & pineapple and vol-au-vents?
I'm sure it was Buffet the Vampire Slayer

I liked that, Robin.
I should add that I agree with highway61 in that Buffy, Angel, etc. are pretty awful television. I've only seen a few episodes but don't the writers realise that people don't actually speak like that? You know, making lame wise-cracks in the face of danger and dealing nonchalantly with vampires and dragons appearing. Mind you, it may just be the limitations of the shockingly bad actors they used.

The wize cracking dialogue is similar to that used by super heroes in comic books; that's the point of the show - Buffy's a super hero.Mortis wrote:I liked that, Robin.

Vladimir and Estragon don't speak like regular people either but I don't recall anybody shouting "Oi Beckett! All this existensialist tosh is alright mate, but it's nuffink like what I talk".
Buffy to Godot in one sentence!

ye gads! I'm being misquoted..I thouroughly enjoyed both buffy and angel (with or without the totty factor! I actually liked dark willow the best!! ) I was merely pointing out that some people were using the number of fanciable females as their gauge of how good a show is/was....A BAD IDEA!!
