Decided to twist.

Long serving Forum members will remember my topic of two years or so ago;- Stick or twist - What next after 'Trusty Steed' Kevin?

. . . . and astutely Neil spotted my teaser, throw away comment of earlier today;-

An additional reason is that it's suitable for a visit to the Skoda main dealer I used to work for, and see a former colleague who kinda enjoys his watch, about changing my car.

Flipping already?

You have only had the other one about 5 minutes!Image

That’s the car I am referring to, not a watch. As a new watch every 5 minutes seems par for the course.Image

Guilty, M'lord.

I've had TOYS for nearly two years / 20,000 miles, found I had a decent amount of equity in him to settle my PCP a year early, so thought I'd take a look around to see if I could get an upgrade, specifically to an Ateca VZ2 that included Full Leather heated seats and a few other toys (pardon the pun).

With a bit of research I've found 'Antikythera' (a play on the letters in the Reg No) or AK for short, a six month old Ateca VZ2, 1690 miles, with full length Panoramic Sun Roof at a price that, on a repeat 36 month PCP and a generous Part Exchange price on TOYS comes in at the same price per month as I'm currently paying.

What's not to like?

I got to check out AK this morning, all's good and I have an appointment to collect him on Saturday afternoon.

A quick pic from this morning, before being valeted.

Image

One item that has cropped up is AK has a Thatcham approved S5 VTS tracker fitted, that I have the option to make use of for an annual subscription of £170.00.

This seemed an interesting proposition until I phone my Insurers this afternoon to discuss. They advised my premium would increase by £5 for the remaining term to mid-January '24. :o :o I'd anticipated a moderately generous refund. :-k :-k

My thoughts so far, having discussed it with my brother and a friend, is to make use of it seeing as it is fitted, but look around at other insurers at Renewal time in January.

Roll on Saturday . . .

Congratulations Guy, don't let the dealer con you into having their ceramic coating applied be it Diamondbrite or Supergard or whatever brand they use.

It's a well know con in the car detailing world ( I'm a member of a few car detailing forums )

Half the time it's never even applied and if it is it's applied so poorly that it only lasts a few months, if that.

Pay a professional car detailer to apply a proper ceramic coating.

Here's mine after being professionally PPF'd and ceramic coated, including the interior.

@malvern_man - advice sincerely appreciated and I remember seeing your resplendent Beemer in a previous post.

I have though succumbed and got AutoGlym LifeShine on AK.

I've had Lifeshine on all my cars for the last nearly 20 years. It also would be rude not to take it, as it was included in the deal and I used to sell it when working for the dealer through whom I've bought AK.

A post script having sorted my Insurance today.

I bit the bullet on the £170 subscription for the S5-VTS Tracker and there was actually a £10 refund on my Insurance Policy (it would have been a £25 refund without the Tracker) but I then have to pay a £15 Admin Fee for change of car i.e. a net £5 cost.

If anyone is interested to know which system I've got, please shoot me a PM.

Nice upgrade Guy, you obviously liked Toys a lot to stick with the Ateca.

As I'm sure many have found, insurance premiums have gone up a lot in the past year across the board, so perhaps yours not dropping isn't so bad. My wife's Panda went up from 330 to 490 to cover the two of us plus the kids, a bit of negotiating got it back down to around 410 with the same insurer. That matched the best price on a comparison site....so there's a 25-30% increase right there even when shopping around. Ouch.

Enjoy the afternoon, Guy – it’s always a nice moment! Sounds like your deal was a no brainer – mine was too because I got a completely new car with much better specs and my PCP went down. The only downside was waiting a year for it to be built after the original 3 to 4 months estimate.

Home a while ago with AK

Image

Initial impression from ten miles drive home.

Smoother, quieter, tighter. Maybe that's just because it's a newer car and hasn't loosened up over 20k miles.

I’m very impressed that you took TOYS for a clean before taking it in to the dealership. I can honestly say I’ve never done that.

Like you say Guy, if it's included then it would be rude not to.

I top up my ceramic coating with Autoglym Rapid Ceramic Spray, it's quick and easy to use and you only need a couple of spritzes per panel. I also use Gyeon Ceramic Detailer and a few other makes too.

A bottle of the, new to me, Autoglym Rapid Ceramic Spray is included in the box of nine bottles of Autoglym products that come as part of the Lifeshine Package.

I guess its an alternative to the Rapid Aqua Wax that I've used to date.

In the meantime, I spent a while this afternoon, putting all my bits and pieces from TOYS into AK e.g Spare Wheel Kit, itg Air Filter,Shoft - Seat Belt tensioners which have the bonus of making the seat belt buckle easier to grip and clip in, plus connecting my phone & activating CUPRA Connect and, most essential, check/adjust the tyre pressures.

AK is ready to go. :D :D
