GADA / GODO

Post by gaf1958 »

Maybe it’s because I live in Australia and they’re terms we simply don’t use, or maybe I’m just dense, but the terms GADA and GODO are confusing me.

The first time I encountered GADA was in this forum and I had no idea what it meant. All of a sudden it was appearing in every second post and I’m thinking (censored version) what the hell? It eventually dawned on me that it probably stood for Go Anywhere, Do Anything. Fair enough I thought, but by the time I’d worked that out, GADA started to be replaced by GODO, or so it seemed to me. GADA now seems to be out of favour with GODO being the dominant term.

From the context, it seems that they mean much the same thing and even CW’s advertising started using the term (one of them at least). However - I still have no idea what GODO stands for and whether the two terms really are interchangeable.

Can someone please enlighten me?

BTW, no amount of internet searching had enlightened me on either term, so I thought I’d put myself up for public ridicule and ask…

I believe they are interchangeable. I think GODO means GO anywhere, DO anything, with GADA being exactly what you think. First time I encountered GODO was in CW's marketing for the C63 line.

Pretty much as Andrew says. GADA has been around for a couple of years, but only really entered the common currency when people were pre-empting the C63 launch by discussing a possible CW explorer-type watch.

GODO appears to be a variant coined by CW for the above launch.

That’s helpful, I thought a GODO watch was one worn when Going Out or Doing Owt.

I think it stems more from the fact that GADA/Go Anywhere Do Anything are both registered trademarks (there are a few derivations). CW had to come up with their own take on it. GODO has several registrants that are dead and cancelled leaving it free to be used.

There seems to be a number of people from photography print books to motor vehicles. An interesting one was cases for watches, watch straps and watch pouches.

EDIT: This is only a US search too.

GADA / GODO

Post by gaf1958 »

Thanks all, I had thought from the usage that they were probably interchangeable terms, but simply couldn’t work out what GODO stood for. One of life’s little unknowns answered…

Small commiserations that we’re not alone.

I originally skipped by the OP because I hadn’t a clue what the title was all about, in the end curiosity took me here. However, I’m still none the wiser as to why acronyms are used to confuse. IAE its NBD.
