Thread Reference Thread
Thread Reference Thread
One thing I’ve learned from the curmudgeon thread is that as a thread starter I get to set the rules for a thread. I can do this safe in the knowledge that they’ll be adhered to and enforced even after I’m gone. So I’m making the rules for this thread right here in the first post, I’ll then make the first ‘actual’ post to give you the idea and it can hopefully grow from there.
I am conscious that there are hundreds of threads now on this forum, some, like the CW of the day live active lives and these can be left out of here. However there are many a thread which make a great read, either due to the quality of the OP, or the ensuing chat. These then become dormant and slip down the pages before often being forgotten. Sometimes they come up again in conversation before once again falling away.
I feel these deserve to be preserved somewhere for new members to read, or those of us who have been around to revisit from time to time. So I’m starting this reference thread to link them all together.
EDIT (Thanks Scooter for highlighting)
The rules are that chat about any threads highlighted can’t be continued on here, the aim is to try to keep this thread clean. If you want to restart a discussion on a recent thread then do so on the actual thread itself. If a thread has been dormant for some time then there are forum rules we need to adhere to.
18.1 If a thread has been dormant for a considerable time, it’s better to link to and/or start a new one in most cases.
Simply post a link to the thread you choose to preserve for others to revisit. Say why you think it deserves preserving and leave it for others to visit at their leisure.
These don’t have to be old threads, if a new thread starts you feel needs to be added here then please do at the time before you forget.
Now let’s get this started........

How can we not add this one to our reference library. It was originally titled learn from my mistakes but over time had come to be known as Downers Rules

Re: Thread Reference Thread
This is a very good idea at face value. I've often thought some very noteworthy threads just disappear without any real uptake. As discussed numerous times before on this forum, it's often the same people starting threads and, for the bulk, contributing to them. I just hope this thread sticks around and doesn't disappear like a number of those it seeks to keep relevant and discussed.

Re: Thread Reference Thread
I’m going to add this one as another example of the type of thread worth saving before I leave this thread for now for others to contribute.

Gary’s threads about his incoming Omegas are always a fascinating read. This is his latest but there are many others. I’ll leave these for others to add if they so choose.

Re: Thread Reference Thread
Good point. We can look at options on this. But as Iain stipulates in the OP, please let’s not start a discussion. Thank you.

Perhaps my favourite thread of all time that made me feel a combination of amazement, admiration and envy.

I’m going to include this one here. It’s the story of Fergs (minimpi) Rolex Tank. The whole thread is worth reading as it moves from the story of how it came to be in his possession and details the research and refurbishment of the watch.

Just thought a timely reminder of the General Forum Rules appropriate here.

Re: Thread Reference Thread
I’m going to go out on a limb here and put forth Iain’s recent thread, Third Time Lucky?. It’s only got 12 responses so far, being so recently started, but the nature of his OP warrants repeated viewings.
I think Iain’s post covers a topic most of us can relate to: the hunt for the watch. It’s a nice primer for the watching buying newbie on what one might look for in a watch and how to approach the search.
Additionally, I love the narrative. Iain just tells a good story there!

Re: Thread Reference Thread
I’m happy that this thread is getting some good links and all submitted so far are certainly ones worth referring others back to.
I’m going to link Gary’s latest Speedmaster tale as it’s well worth revisiting at some point in the future.
