As next year is my last year, I want to make a statement, you know? Kinda go big or go home. One thought is to rent an elaborate Louis XIV costume to show up in on my last day of teaching. Over the years I’ve become known for my bow ties. Normally I wear them for the first couple of weeks of school before laziness gets the better of me. So related to this, and this where the gown factors into the equation, another idea is to go all in with formal dress for the year - nice shirt, bow tie, blazer, and academic robe, like John Cleese in the school scene from The Meaning of Life. I fear however, that the robe will be lost on the students, and probably a great many of my coworkers.
Or perhaps I dress like Professor Snape all year!
