This guy does incredible dial restorations

Post by NationOfLaws »

I’ve really been enjoying this guy’s dial restorations. Kind of crazy to me that he has so few views and subscribers. [youtube]U4qX2FO8NLc[/youtube]

I cannot for the life of me get the YouTube tag to work. Here’s the link.

1. Open the clip in the YouTube website: copy the complete URL (it needs to have the syntax below with “watch” in it for some reason, and must have “https”)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4qX2FO8NLc

2. Paste it between “YouTube” tags. It should work.

Concerning YouTube links, it’s been my experience that links copied from within the YouTube app don’t work properly for posting within a thread, nor do links formatted for mobile devices.

Concerning the video, fascinating!

@jkbarnes I believe that is correct, Drew. Hence I specified opening it in the website.

This kind of thing is right up my street - I love putting little videos like this on in the background, it's well suited to just working away on stuff and glancing over to it! Subscribed!

Thanks, I tried that but the address didn’t have the www (since it’s optional and waning in usage) so I guess it didn’t parse. I researched the BBCode YouTube tag and apparently there is no standard approach to its implementation.

Now that I know, I’ll never forget until I have to do it again.

I have absolutely no notion of how it works, nor indeed of why it works. After discovering what doesn’t work, I just do it that way and guess what, it works! :D

No worries. Mind you, given the way he was going at that little dial with something that resembles a Victorian scrubbing brush for tiled floors, I’m surprised there was anything left of it!

I think it's a fascinating process, but his other videos are similar. He takes it down to base metal which starts a Ship of Theseus sort of question

I’m sure Ariadne and Dionysos would know the answer to that. A classics based philosophical conundrum, better known on this side of the Atlantic as “Trigger’s Broom”.
