Left work today after 13 years and start at another NHS trust next week. The generosity and well wishes from my colleagues was genuinely humbling. It’s so satisfying to know you have made a real difference to some people.

My whole working life has been centred on help others. Occasionally I reach out to those same people to lend me a hand with a project. In the majority they are more than pleased to do so and this evening is a good example. An ex student of mine emailed me. He is a photo sports journalist and has offered to take some promo photographs. Given his busy schedule flying all over the world I’m absolutely chuffed.

A win, rescued from what I thought was an impossible position.

Just returned home from Duxford and the Battle of Britain Air Show, an amazing display of aircraft and flying skill. This year the show was changed to commemorate the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. There were no bands playing nor singing or dancing, it just would not have been appropriate. However, the Air Show began at exactly at 12.08pm with a two minute silence which was ended by a Spitfire appearing above our heads at exactly 1:00pm. The roar of the Merlin engine saluting Her Majesty was both emotional and fitting. The thousands of spectators spontaneously clapped followed by cries of God Save The King.

I've spent the last half an hour watching the BBC red button channel showing people passing the Queen lying in state. I'm finding it very comforting. Every so often the guard changes, and the lines draw to a temporary halt.

Ahhhhhh...... Two fire engines came back and switched the alarm off. Or hit it with a hammer. Oh the good feeling when bad noise stops! :D

(See recent Curmudgeon‘S Corner post for fuller explanation )

Watching the Queen’s funeral via the evening news clips, as I was at work today.

That, ladies & gentlemen, is how you do pomp & ceremony, with dignity & style!

I've just read that Tesco are going to stop all manned tills, and only use self checkouts on some stores. Now I do like using the self scanners that store your entire shop, despite occasional being picked for rescans, but I really dislike self checkouts where you do it all yourself.

It's ok at 10:30 at night when you stop for a bottle of coke or something, but I don't want to self scan a full shop.

I know this is non-curmudgeons, because I do like scanning as I go, and then paying for the trolley which is already picked in shopping bags. That's the way to go, Mr Tesco..

It’s been a lovely week spent with amazing friends, Ferg & Lou. Our visits have included Winchester Cathedral, tour of Windsor & Eton, Maidenhead & a chat with Mike France, Silverstone Interactive Museum, tour of Central London, Egham - a poke around a few Ferraris & then onto the thought provoking RAF memorial. Other visits included Bucklebury Farm and Basildon Park. I even managed to squeeze in a day’s shooting & a fabulous lunch with Chris and Jonny Ward. Excellent suppers at the Bull Inn Sonning and St George & the Dragon Wargrave. Today, it’s a kiddies afternoon party and then off to celebrate a friend’s 40th birthday. Friends are important to me as is life, hence living it to the full. Whoever reads this I wish you a lovely day too.
