Re: The most beautiful songs?
We’ve seen “The Prayer” linked a couple of times. Here’s Bocelli with Hayley Westenra singing:
Dell’amore non si sa (quando viene o se ne va)
With love one never knows (when it comes or when it goes)

The Cranberries at one with the audience in Paris, 1999.

This song always affects me, having 'been there'. Hauntingly beautiful.

Re: The most beautiful songs?
This one is a combination of a brilliant moody song with one of the best sax solo's (ever)... I always turn the volume up to 11 as the solo kicks in

I’m a great fan of anything by Karl Jenkins, and the Adiemus albums feature prominently on my playlists.

Re: The most beautiful songs?
And you can’t have a list of beautiful songs without something from West Side Story. Bernstein really could write a tune.
And this, of course, is the most beautiful song in the show. Well, I think so.

Re: The most beautiful songs?
This song has been a favourite of mine since I was in my teens. It also led to me being a huge fan of all of the Alan Parsons Project's work. It's definitely in the "sad and reflective" category, but is certainly beautiful, at least to me. It also has a fantastic saxophone solo at the end!

Re: The most beautiful songs?
I gather so... fingers crossed for a safe recovery.
Continuing my theme tonight of powerful female vocalists, another name you may have heard of but perhaps not appreciated the breadth of content and quality of vocals (I didn't until a couple of years ago). Skunk Anansie (the band), Skin the singer. This thread triggered me to watch a DVD of perhaps one of my favourite female singers - the depth and range of her voice is mind-boggling. I've put one track here but this whole concert is an acoustic gem... just a great combination of singer, musicians and probably, I think, the nature of the venue... have a nosey, you may find some tracks you vaguely remember from the 90's.

Re: The most beautiful songs?
I was streaming some mediaeval music the other day, for want of anything better to do, and I came across this glorious tune which is quite well known. It’s a 15th century English carol called: Ther is no rose of swych vertu.
I was looking round for a version of it to paste here and came across this rather fabulous version by Sting recorded in Durham Cathedral. I think it’s an incredible melody – hope you like it.

Re: The most beautiful songs?
As a HUGE Skunk Anansie fan, their acoustic set in London a few years ago was beyond beautiful, but has already had a worthy mention. Ive said it before on another thread, Skin's voice is the most incredible voice on earth. Id put her on par with the legendary Freddie Mercury.
This song may be able to be sung by others, but im not sure anyone could do it justice.
Bears Den are superb, and even better live. Having seen them numerous times at small venues, its mind blowing when they unplug their guitars and mics, get off stage, and walk in to the middle of the crowd. There, they play a couple of songs, totally unassisted, with the crowd literally inches from them. Its chilling when they do it!
I give you the song that always makes me think of my late mum......

Re: The most beautiful songs?
Great thread! For me Nina Simone ‘I wish I knew how it would feel to be free’ would have to be somewhere in my top 5. Probably Pink Floyd ‘Wish you were here’ would be up there too. And maybe Damien Rice ‘Cannonball’. I reckon Ludivico Einaudi ‘I Giorni’ would be second. I’ll have to think on the final one.

Re: The most beautiful songs?
I never knew this thread existed. Brilliant.
There are so many, but I recently discovered Katherine Priddy and there's something about her voice and the lyrics on this one that make me well up every time (best listened to rather than watched – the video detracts IMO, although she is beautiful
).
Well worth looking up her album, The Eternal Rocks Beneath.
