Following the same train of thought as yesterday, where I thought this thread must have a McCartney song, I consider today that it must also have a Billy Joel song, as another great popular songwriter from the 20th Century. I've gone for And So It Goes, which is such a beautifully written song.
Rather than the original version (which is great, of course), I'm putting forward this a cappella arrangement because it really brings out the richness of Billy Joel's harmonies, which are a little more buried in the piano part in the original:
Prediction is very difficult, especially about the future. - Niels Bohr
I’m thoroughly enjoying this thread! Thank you for starting it, Steve.
Here’s one a bit out of left field. I’m always moved by Neil Young’s ballads/slower songs. While he doesn’t have the greatest singing voice in rock and roll, I’d argue he can convey more emotion with his voice than just about anyone. There are so many great songs to pick from, I’m going with the live version of Old Man from Live at Massey Hall. Just beautiful.
As an added bonus, I offer up an equally beautiful Neil Young song, Helpless, covered by k. d. lang. Neil’s original version is worth a listen, too!

The quality that Lea Salonga brings to this song is so subtle but with so much depth. And if you know the story, motivations, and afflictions of her character Eponine, it adds a whole other haunting layer to the song.

I'm sorry. I can't help myself. Here's one more.

My second favorite song from Les Miz! Eponine is such a better character than that whinny Cosette!
Sorry, but I’m back again with another song. This is by the Avett Brothers. I find their lyrics quite moving. This is my favorite song by them. I think it captures perfectly that first love we all experience, the one we get over but never quite goes away, you know? How’s this for a lyric! It floors me every time because I know that exact feeling.
Last night I dreamt the whole night long
I woke with a head full of songs
I spent the whole day
I wrote 'em down, but its a shame
Tonight I'll burn the lyrics,
'Cause every chorus was your name
I highly recommend seeing these guys live. They put on a fantastic show. I’ve seen them four or five times now, and they have yet to disappoint.

I loved this, thanks. I’m a big fan of a cappella groups in general.
Posting this as an incredibly beautiful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. While the song itself might only appeal to a few forumite’s nationalities, I think the group’s skill and the particular arrangement will appeal to many more. There is a more finished/processed version available, but this raw footage unedited really shows off their natural talent.
And then to truly show that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I present something radically different that I think is equally as beautiful as anything else here. This one has to do with a lot, my age and life experience around the time I discovered it, and my experience as an audio engineer in appreciating the sound that came out in this album. The beauty for me is particularly in the chorus, so skip ahead to about 1:29 if Blink-182 isn’t your thing but you’re humoring me
ALSO, I can’t seem to figure out embedding a YouTube video. I’ve searched the forum and found some tips that don’t seem to be working for me. Any tips?

I fixed your links by adding www. in front of youtube.com in the link. I guess there are different types of link available. My method may not be the most efficient but it works..
1. Whilst watching the video on youtube simply copy the link that is shown in your browser bar - for example - youtube.com/watch?v=xxx
2. In the CW forum, when writing a new post, click on the "youtube" button and then paste your link.
That's it.

Additional tips:
Copying a link from the YouTube app doesn’t work. It’s got to be a link directly from a browser window, at least that’s been my experience.
If it’s a mobile link, replace the m with www.
Finally, when pasting the link between the YouTube markup, it’s been my experience that a space gets added before the http. Delete that space it’s it’s there.
Hope this helps!

I must say, I have been delighted with the way this thread has been taken up!
Time for a little Joni Mitchell, I think. “Amelia”, from the “Hejira” album; her tribute to Amelia Earhart. This version live at Wembley Arena in 1983.
I’m surprised in a way that no one has picked this next one yet. “Into the West” by Annie Lennox, from “LOTR - the Return of the King”.
