Re: The Golf Topic
Here's my new toy, went to American golf and spent around 45 mins testing various putters.
I narrowed it down to two, this and a Cobra, both face balanced, a few more minutes with each and performance wise they were very similar.
I ended up picking the Scotty Cameron, it's just a lovely beautiful bit of Engineering Vs the 3D printed (a guess) Futuristic Cobra.
Regards Steve

^^Steve, what a choice!
Scotty Cameron putters are lovely, such an iconic brand and, as you say, they are beautifully engineered. On top of all that they maintain their value so IMO most definitely you bought the better putter.
I'm jealous
Hope it plays as good as it looks.

No questioning the style or engineering quality. If it feels good it will certainly boost your confidence. I hope it works well for you. It is a beauty.

I can't wait to get out for a game, unfortunately the weather is not right at the moment.
Anyone else get a golf related present this year ?
My son-in-law's Mum bought me a large amount of Lake Balls.
Which should last me, at least 1 season.
Regards Steve

Re: The Golf Topic
How many balls do you guys go through in a season?
I play about 60 rounds at a variety of courses. I have been fairly consistent in the quantity of balls I go through over the years. Loosely tracked, It seems that I go through about 5 dozen on average. I usually lose about 12-20 (water, woods etc.) and the rest are retired for scuffs and damage. This is usually far less than the rest of my golf buddies, but I am curious if you guys have any idea how many you use?
This past season I lost 18 balls and did have 1 ball that lasted 52 holes before retirement. I also ended the season with about a dozen balls left over, but did miss the final moth due to injury.

Re: The Golf Topic
I guess 2 per round average.
So around 80-100 per year, If I buy new balls, I tend to try harder to find them.
We played a game this year where each team of 4 were given a yellow ball and a bonus was awarded for not losing it.
It was the slowest game I'd ever played !!!

Re: The Golf Topic
Like you I'd like to get out to play but it's not the weather stopping me. This winter, more than ever, I was determined to play whatever the weather. However a relatively minor injury from a few weeks ago is preventing anything near a full swing so I'm using the downtime for recovery, stretching and strengthening the pulled muscle. Once we're past New Year's day I'll be out practicing the short game so I don't get too rusty before an anticipated return to playing around mid-January.
A couple of golf related presents for Christmas - 1 glove and some Srixon Q Star Tour balls in yellow for winter use as I use the white version during the rest of the year.
TBH I've never really counted before. I play about the same number of rounds as you Kip so possibly go through the same quantity of balls. These would be mainly lost in water on my home course or retired as I tend to be a straight hitter generally and this summer/autumn had a few balls lasting 3 rounds each. Unless they've hit a tree they're not normally badly scuffed so they get retired into my practice supply.Kip wrote: ↑Tue Dec 28, 2021 10:59 am How many balls do you guys go through in a season?

For 2022 I'll be playing Srixon Q Star Tour balls only as I was gifted 48 whites and now have 24 yellows so I'll be able to record how many I use/lose during 2022. I'll let you know this time next year

It depends how good the provisional is
But I don't usually spend more than a couple of minutes searching.

Re: The Golf Topic
Got out for a round, a bit muddy between holes, but the course and greens were pretty good.
Not sure how, but I seemed to have gained around 30yds of distance, when catching it right.
It made things very challenging, as I used to have a simple method of working out my requirements, based on my 7 iron going on average 160yds.
Then up and down 10 yds per club.
I was hitting it 188yds on the range, and the big slice has disappeared.
I thought it wouldn't transfer to the course, but I was wrong, I started out basing it off 170yds.
But after over shooting on the first few holes, I had to tweak it again.
So it had transferred, to the course, which rarely happens.
The only thing I've done differently, is I'm now doing regular forearm exercises with hand grippers, Oh and I probably gained 10lbs in weight, over the holidays.
I'm going again tomorrow, so let's see if it was a one off.
The Scotty putter, was a joy to use, 30 Putts for the round, with one 4 Putt included in that total. Considering its its first outing, I'm very happy with that.
Regards Steve

Re: The Golf Topic
Haven’t managed to get out since about 16th December due to weather, work and life in general. Didn’t even get to the driving range until a Wednesday this week. That was an experience!
The combination of time away and also a minor injury hasn’t done my swing any good it seems. I managed a short lesson with my friendly pro and it seems I’ve regressed to ‘casting’ the club head out and away from the swing plane in the downswing rather than continuing along and around the swing plane. The result isn’t pretty.
I’ve managed to damage a rib/muscle which pulls a bit and seems to stop me swinging freely. Very very very irritating.
I shall just have to wait for it to sort itself out and hopefully things will correct themselves.
I’m not missing much golf as the course is closed due to the amount of rain when I am actually free!

Re: The Golf Topic
Oh…balls lost per season. Don’t like to think. Let’s just say somewhere between more than I would like and gazillions
I seem to lose an inordinate amount pointlessly. For instance I was practicing chipping a while ago and one ball ran just off the green…and I mean maybe a foot…into some not very long grass. Could I find it? No. Could the mate I was with find it? No.

Re: The Golf Topic
Santa left a voucher or 2. Went last week and had a 2 hour fitting session ,didnt go with any paticular brands in mind, took delivery of a Callaway Epic Max Ls driver, 3 wood, 5 wood , Callaway apex rescue ,Taylormade SimMax2 5,6,7,8,9,PW,A,SW and a 60* Milled Grind 3 Black Wedge .Kept my trusty Odyssey 2 ball putter but treated it to a new grip . Been out twice this week (front 9 holes only, back 9 closed). 20 and 19 points respectivley(adjusted handicap of 6) with near identical 2's on the same hole.
Out in the morning weather permitting
PS, Can truly say i've only lost 3 balls last year, not counting the 5 or 6 that went into the water hazards, i knew exactly where they are as i could see them , just couldnt reach them with my 18 foot ball picker

Re: The Golf Topic
Has anybody bought any of the dual colour Srixon Q Star Tour Divide golf balls?
I'm trying to improve my putting and these will show any spin that I might be adding to the ball on the stroke by how static the colours stay on the way to the hole. I'm using the normal white Q Star Tour balls this year for golf rounds so these dual colour would also give the same touch and feel when practicing.
Trouble is I really don't need a dozen of them for this, especially at £30 per dozen, unless they are really worthwhile buying solely for the putting practice that I'll use them for so wondered if anybody has tried them?
