Train strikes. I understand why they're doing it (i.e. they want more money / better conditions and importantly, they can), but selfishly it causes me a huge amount of issues.

While I'm in a curmudgeonly mood, I just don't think it's fair to Andy Murray to stick him on at tea time, just because he's British. Nadal and Djokovic get early times, are back home relaxing by 5 o'clock. Andy hangs around all day and doesn't finish till late at night. It must have damaged his chances year after year.even tonight he's playing late into the evening under the covered court for no good reason.

And while I'm on a roll. Why does Andy's mum come to watch every game he plays. Tim Henman's parents did the same. My mum never came to watch me work. Leave it till the quarter finals at the very least.

Is the point of this thread to complain without judgment? Here I go.
  • I buy an Aquitaine
  • I realize after the fact that I forgot to get the bracelet resized, email CW, they agree to resize the bracelet
  • Receive the Aquitaine, bracelet is a little too small
  • Aquitaine box contains none of the links that were removed
  • Email CW, am told they did not remove any links. I reply that they either did or they're shipping 7.5" wrist bracelets to everyone which would be nuts.
  • CW sends me two links.
  • I go to the jeweler today to get one half link removed, one full link added (since CW sent two full-sized links only and I needed a half link more room). Pay $35 for resizing, which is criminally high anyway. Jeweler comes back out and demonstrates that the links provided are the wrong size (too large for the bracelet).
  • Jeweler refuses to refund money because he has to bill for his time.
It was a weird jeweler. The salesperson had worked there four days. When I asked to see the Longines Conquest he said "I don't know what you're talking about." Had Christian rock playing over the PA.

To do list:
  • Get right links from CW
  • Buy a resizing kit
  • Find a new local jeweler

Not that I'm too aggrieved by it, but what is the point of a price cap that keeps going up and up? I'm noting Martin Lewis pointing out an energy price cap approaching £3000.

This point was made on another thread, and rather than derail that thread, I felt compelled to vent here.

A few years ago I started an expensive journey buying a brand of watches which uses only Chronometers (no, not Rolex) and I found myself appreciating the accuracy more and more. Over the years I’ve picked up other Chronometers from different brands, with similar smile-inducing accuracy.

I usually have 5 watches on rotation at any one time, which means on average I’ll wear one of them every 5 days. While some non-COSC movements do indeed perform perfectly well, I have had Sellita & ETA movements running at +/- 30 spd (usually -30 I recall), which is just about within spec.

My wearing habits make the 2-ish minutes variance since the last wear quite obvious, and it annoys the heck out of me. I consciously find myself wearing these watches less often for this very reason.

OK, this is definitely a 1st World problem, & some more tolerant souls perhaps couldn’t care less, but the point of a timekeeper is to keep time, not lose it.

It might be me getting old, but I listen to the BBC radio less and less. I enjoy Steve Wright when I listen, but that treat is disappearing now. Serious disappointin'

Sliced bread. When we go on holiday in France there's a bread slicing machine freely available to customers (I haven't lost any fingers yet, or worse). Why can't UK supermarkets do this? Sainsbury's are OK, but it's next to impossible to find a member of staff in Morrisons.

1. I think they've changed the sausage casings they use. The seem.much thicker had harder to cut
2. They are one of the few supermarkets who don't offer meal deals.

Nobody really adequately prepares you for the number of times your newborn will poo on you, and apparently the time it takes to forget how often it happens is less than two years.

After four years of hard work (and tuition!), this is how my daughter’s university diploma showed up to day (almost two months after she graduated; in contrast I left my graduation with the actual diploma in hand that day!)

It was just slid into a cardboard mailer with “Do not bend” printed on it. Nothing with it in the mailer…well, except for an ad to purchase a digital diploma.

I find this a bit disgraceful and rather tacky. These kids deserved better than this!

Whereas in the past I could call CW CS and ask if I could collect an order, today I was told CW’s policy was no drop off nor collections at No:1. I see a line has been added to the FAQ on their website, ‘We take returns via post only – we have no facility at 1, Park Street for managing returns’, - no mention of collections. When I asked about making a showroom appointment I was told this was reserved for sales. Later I received a voicemail to say, as it’s a bespoke order I could collect. I called back to say that no matter what, all customers should be treated equally and that their policy stinks. At the time of writing their showroom was not exactly overwhelmed with bookings yet too busy to hand over a watch. I would have thought a customer on their doorstep would have been welcomed to step through the yellow door.

I’ve told them to send the watch, I’m no longer interested in visiting.
