Shouldn't you be learning from your mistakes? The cars should be getting better.

I have been testing a GTi, a type R and a235i. The decision between the Type R and 135/235 is paper thin...they are both wonderful in totally different ways.
Although I prefer RWD, on balance the R seems a slightly better all rounder. But I could jump either way....
No I decided not to go for the PP as I had a budget and other options (Adaptive Chassis and Sat Nav) were more important to me. 80% of the time I'm happy with it, it ticks all the boxes in terms of the usability, performance, economy, practicality but that 20% when I'm 'pressing on' down a B-Road, I wish I had the clever diff.

When mine goes in for it's first service I'll be asking to borrow an R for the day and looking at the man-maths very carefully!

Some impressive lists here with some really nice vehicles. One day, I'd like to own a Jag F Type, but I just don't know if I ever will convince myself. As is, I've only ever owned 1 car in my life: a 2004 Hyundai Sonata (gotta be a good Korean). I've owned it for 10 years and barely have 50,000 miles on it, so I don't think I could ever justify dropping money on an F Type.

But my my, they're pretty.

Pete, you just might change your mind after driving one! Kinda like trying on a lovely timepiece that you lust after...you begin to find reasons to justify :D
Go ahead...try one on! You won't be disappointed

They used to test them past my house, in 'camouflage' though any self respecting petrolhead worked out what they were.
The sound is fabulous, both the sixes and the eights. I particularly love straight sixes and bent eights, but even the bent sixes sound wonderful.
When the tin tops started to appear, it was clear that they looked STUNNING even through the camouflage.
If I wanted a two seater, I'd be hard pushed between a Boxter S and the Jaguar.
But I cannot justify a two seater any longer (sold my 500SL in July).
It'll be interesting to compare the tin top R against the new Merc SLS.

I suspect that it probably wouldn't. My parents own a Kia minivan that they have really put through the paces, and it's held up pretty nicely over the years, so maybe there's hope?

Time to toot my ancestral country's horn a bit. Korean cars have come a long long way. Hyundai's are essentially in the same breath now as their Japanese counter parts (better than them depending on who you ask). On top of that, I personally think they look better too. Even if you don't quite agree, compare that with the 1980s when the Hyundai Excel was repeatedly named the worst car on the road. Kia still has a bit more ground to make up, but they're definitely solid cars from what I have learned from friends.

National Pride, Baby!

I'm sure driving an F-Type would rock my world. I'd like to be able to make the leap, but I feel like Jags are just too expensive given how much I drive per year. New base model F-Types MSRP is $65K. Certified used selection is really thin around me. Quick search yields 3 vehicles within 300 miles of me, and the cheapest one is $75K. That's a lot of coin to drop when I have a paid off Hyundai with at least 40K miles left in it, assuming I take care of it properly.

Since you're an experienced Jag driver, Tom, I'd gladly take any advice you've got. The other thing that I haven't really thought about yet is leasing, which might make sense given my driving habits. But I really have no sense of whether that would actually work for me.

But knowing me, I'll probably go for a used BMW for something around $45K after I've put a little more on my Hyundai.

Sadly, so too are expectations of a shiny new car ~ sometimes they cancel each other out.

For me, as soon as I started on the company car route, I was no longer given a choice of car so any substandard vehicle was more representative of my employer than of my decision making capabilities....

Substandard employers soon got replaced through my decision making capabilities too :D

I can now add another car to my list.....on a temporary basis. None have gone off it!
I now own a Datsun!
Not a GT-R or even a Z370.
No.
A 1.2 auto Nissan Note!
Effectively I am running it in with a view to giving it in due course to a disabled relative. I am happy to drive it when in a dog collar....it looks a vicary sort of car.
Jeans or cords in my BMWs.

The elevated seating was the deciding factor. The relative to whom it will eventually go needs an upright seat, auto, etc. But she drives as though the pedals are switches....on/off, so I will do the first 2,000 miles to protect the investment.....
