Ten years a forumite…

Post by nbg »

… doesn’t time fly!

Little did I imagine that when I joined the forum on 24 November 2013 I would still be an active member 10 years on.

This place was the first forum of any type that I joined and remains one of only two that I look at and post on.

I have also joined a few Facebook watch groups, but much prefer the more sedate style of forums, accompanied by the lack of posing and argumentative behaviour often found.

Checking out the members list, the “class of 2013” contains a fair few members with post counts of over 2,000. Many of which are members who for a variety of reasons no longer post, although in my view this would be an even better place if they were still willing, or able to contribute. However like many things in life, time moves on and circumstances change.

My watch tastes haven’t really changed much over ten years as regards either the style of watches, or brands that I favour. The main change, certainly over the past year, has been that I find myself wearing a lesser number of different watches and brands, with the proportion of CW watches regularly worn, higher than it has been at any stage that I have been here.

End of ramble! :)

Neil

To be serious, I’ve been here a while myself and seen people come and go and also feel it would be a brighter place if a few were still around.

The forum goes through periods where it slows down and I’ve noticed new threads that would once have generated 3-4 pages of replies now only get 1-2.

Thanks for your continued contribution, your wise words and insightful posts are always good to read.

Congrats Neil. Ten years is a long time. They tell me you can almost wait as long for a certain brand of stainless steel sports watch that certain folk seem to favour. 😉👍

Happy anniversary Neil!

I agree with your point about the more sedate posting style of a forum vs other mediums like Facebook - I've been a member of another (non-watch related) forum for 20 years now, and used to be a member of many more that are sadly no longer around. I find the experience of scrolling through a few new posts at my own pace great, and with a clear order of when they've been started and updated, rather than being algorithmically rammed down my throat!

Here's to your next decade of posts!

Hey Neil
You were only a few months ahead of me in joining the forum but I’ve always regarded you as a grand old man and mentor of the forum (with less of the ‘old’ of course  ). Who knows what sort of flexy watch snob (or inverted watch snob) I’d have become had it not been for your measured good taste and your great perspective on owning watches.
Cheers, Congratulations and Onwards!

@nbg We must have met at SQP about a year after you joined.

Congratulations, well done on your peerless posting record and pictures of your watches and try on sessions…and thanks for all the fish.

I was surprised that the board stats show over 15000 members, as I am pretty sure only a fraction of that number actually post regularly.

10years active posting must be quite rare. Well done, Neil. :D
