 very good Steve.

Continuing the theme of dancing, I watched an old film this afternoon, Last Tango in Paris

Guy
Well they played better than I thought they would and if we were more clinical I think we could have won the game. Hogg's fumble obviously and a number of other plays close to the Irish try line but we just couldn't get through.

So if we can play like that next week, but take our chances and minimise the mistakes then we might have a chance. England are still massive favourites though.

And rightly so, Steve. They are a good side. But interestingly my take on it is that Wales was probably the side we learned least about this weekend. Granted, they put 40 points on Italy in Cardiff, but that is not always a barometer of how things will unfold.

Who will beat France? From what I saw Wales are the only ones who look like realistic contenders.

Quite interesting that a former English league player and Welsh defensive coach has put some steel into the French. Admittedly the scrum creaked later on and England were to some extent the architects of their own undoing, but the French did defend well phase after phase and they took their chances well. I could see them winning the lot.

England can’t afford another half like that first one in Paris, certainly not against the Celtic nations and especially not against Wales.

Looking forward to the next instalment.

Going off piste to an alternative code; who's up for Super Bowl LIV tonight (or afternoon for our USA/Ca members)?

Really hard to choose between the Chiefs and the 49ers.

Will Garoppolo's grunt and rushing game prevail over some Mahomes' magic, or the other way around?

Well played Scotland today! England tried their best to lose at the end yesterday but the championship is now wide open again.

I wouldn’t normally be rooting for Scotland but given that they were trying to stop a French Grand Slam all power to their elbow!

Just back in from Murrayfield, really enjoyed the match as you might imagine.

I thought we showed great intensity in the tackle/defence from the off. Certainly the sending off was a bit of a turning point too, it always felt like we were going to win after that.

There was a great atmosphere at the game and a lot of (very sporting) French fans.

There’s a ‘great’ photo of Le Punch on the BBC site today. Looked terrible and totally premeditated

It's a funny old game when Joe Marler can brazenly 'interact' with Alan Wyn Jones' wedding tackle with not even a comment and a bit of handbags results in a red card!

Maybe Joe Marler was just trying to verify the old saying that rugby is a game played by men with odd shaped balls

I am not saying that fighting on the pitch is to be condoned ( although sometime back in the last century when I used to play it was the norm!) but with the level of physical contact permitted legally a bit of a spur of the moment stuff is hardly going to increase the danger of injury!

It's a shame when a sending off ruins a game and maybe there should be variable lengths of time in the sin bin available to the ref building up to a full sending off.

Having said that, happy for the Scots to have beaten the French - if only for the benefit of the England team.

Cheers,

Paul

There was plenty of comment from Alun Wyn Jones after the match regarding the Marler "challenge" and I see he has now been cited for this. I'd expect an appropriately lengthy ban will follow.

I think this photo tells the story about Haouas's punch on Jamie Ritchie. My recollection of watching the TMO footage on the big screen at the match was that he then threw another punch or tried to do so after Ritchie went to ground following the first punch and Haouas went down on top of him. I'd call that more than handbags and his own manager has come out today and criticised him.

Well, tomorrow is planned out. I thought it might be a bit "After the Lord Mayor's Show" but actually I can't wait to see some live 6 Nations Rugby.

So, maybe a walk in the morning (we appear to be getting the daily afternoon dose of **** from the sky). Get some beers in, get something nice in the slow cooker, then it's sofa, masses of cushions and throws and hours and hours of telly! :D

Come on England! :pal:

^^^ I have a similar plan, although somehow I also need to find a way to watch the LFC game, scheduled for 17:30. If I record it, it could end being a long session of TV sport...

As well as the belated final matches of the Six Nations, it is also semi finals weekend in the 2019/20 (last season's) Scottish Cup. I will be watching the Edinburgh derby 1st semi final tomorrow @ 5pm as my son is a Jambo (Hearts supporter).
