Dogs play an important role in enabling the blind and the hearing impaired, yet it would appear that other groups require a thorough screening process, often to be denied. I guess some rescue centres see themselves immune of discriminatory practice under the pretence of ensuring that the dog is placed in a home where they will not only be cherished for the rest of their life but also receive the appropriate care and nurturing they need to thrive. Something that clearly I was judged as incapable of providing.

Hes obviously fast as a fast thing that runs fast, plus hes possibly the saviour of the universe (in your eyes?!)

Well, the naming thing turned out to be really tricky - so many somersaults to try and find something ‘meaningful’... Did I want my dog to be represented for being fast, friendly, stellar, bright, a loving companion, a traveller, a wizard, dark, bright? Did I want him to represent the dawn, the winter or the sunlight? Did I want a Greek, African or Native American name root? Honestly, that’s a lot of expectation to put on one dog!

Then I found out what his racing name means - Abadan Dubh is a night-lurking demon in Irish mythology who plays a reed pipe in the darkness to lure people in then touches them and induces in them oblivion or madness. I shuddered when I read the tale - it’s horrible.

So instantly I had my hound’s name - it’s Neo. The dog doesn’t need defined into the future by some trendy meaningful name - he just needs to know he has a new start away from racing and that horrible dark name. And it’s a new start for me too so the name feels good when I say it. :

Excellent choice. And of course you did pick a name with a Greek root.

Great name Lindsey; with two syllable that allows you to put inflection into the name when calling.
