Re: Show your pet!
What a lovely little dog. Good to hear that your story has a happy conclusion. Sadly some rescue societies can be a little prescriptive and set in their ways. I've had many Greyhounds in the past - they are great dogs but can need watching around smaller animals - Now we have a Cockerpoo. I will say one thing, it's a LOT easier clearing up behind a Cockerpoo!
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left

I'm hopeful it will be a lot easier to take Nova on the buses with me too. He'll hopefully be a GODO dog!

Re: Show your pet!
This is fantastic Lindsey!! Congratulations!
As you may know we have 3 rescue dogs currently , of which 2 are certified therapy dogs. Kylie is our star performer as she does about 90% of the visits to nursing homes and Rehab centers. She also goes with Chrissy to schools for Chrissy's Insightful Player functions. Here is a photo of Kylie in action.
The training, although it can be intense, is quite fun for both you and the dog. It usually consists of three different certifications around here, but it is so worth it. You get a well trained dog who spreads love and joy wherever you go.
You are familiar with some of the benefits so I hope you investigate the options and that you and "Nova" become certified. It will be wonderful and therapeutic for both of you.
I look forward to seeing many more photos of Nova in the not to distant future.

Lindsey
great news that you will be taking on a puppy and what a cutie he looks. I don't have any direct experience with cockapoos, but the component breeds are both highly intelligent so no doubt Nova will be also. Do take time training (the more the merrier whatever path you both decide on) it really is so much fun for both dog and owner and the relationship you build cannot be equaled.
Gratuitous shot of our wonderful two in the snow:

Good morning
Here's a pic of Luna left and Gypsy that popped up on my wifes phone yesterday.
Really miss Little Gypsy, she was our first dog and was a fantastic little girl.
Regards Steve

Re: Show your pet!
Fantastic, great times ahead.missF wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 6:47 pm I have incoming!!!
For some time now I've been thinking of rehoming a retired greyhound. They make gentle and tolerant pets. But I was refused on the grounds that I have mental health problems. I was very honest with the rescue centre because I always think that's the best policy, but they basically suggested that having mental health problems means that I'm too unstable and irresponsible to have a greyhound. My friend who's a dog owner even offered to write me a kind of reference, but they didn't take us up on that offer. Never even invited me out to meet me. I've never experienced stigma or discrimination before based on my history of mental health problems, so this really galled me. There was nothing I could do to change their minds.
However, an idea had been gradually forming alongside this one - what if I was to get a cockapoo puppy (known for being super friendly and intelligent), train it well, then register it as a therapet??? When I was in hospital I used to love the Thursday visits from the therapet. I understand how powerful pets can be at making you feel calm and relaxed. More than that - I'd really be able to give something back and feel like I might be of some use in the world.
So! This morning I visited a litter near Edinburgh, and had three boys to choose from. I'd like you to meet Nova - chosen because his tail never stopped wagging, and he even left his brothers playing to come over and put his paws up on my knee to say hello!
Nova will come home with me in 3-4 weeks, and the hard work (and fun!) will begin!!

Speaking of which, you may need this, I'd never heard of them until this morning, so visited the site and saw this ! And thought it was quite apt.

Re: Show your pet!
@missF - Brilliant news Lindsey.
It is said that dogs choose their owners; not the other way around.
I'm sure the next few weeks will not pass quickly enough for you but once you have Nova at home, let the fun begin.
