We still think about Penny the springer all the time and we often speak about her, reminiscing about all the crazy stuff she did and the wonderful memories she left us with, especially as we still walk the same routes and go to the same places with the other two. Anyway, she is never far from our thoughts and like yourself we were blessed to have had her in our lives. I hope you perk up soon. I know it's early days but in the longer term will you get another pup? Not that you can ever replace a dog you lose, just create new and different memories with a completely different character.
Thanks you for the nice note Pat.
What a great looking Springer! Penny looked like a very happy girl indeed.
Riley was the last of 4 pets that spanned about 24 years. It will take some time for my wife and I to reacclimate. We aren't going to rush into anything as we want it to feel more organic than that. We will know when the time is right to bring in another 4 legged friend.

@rkovars . Yes that sounds like the right and sensible decision. With the two surviving girls now both 12 I am dreading going through it all again. I guess it's not a lot of pain for the many years of love and happiness they have given me and my family. I think when they are all gone I will probably just stick with one dog but not immediately. Like you said, it needs to be organic.
Thanks
Pat

doing PT for her partially torn CCL (similar to ACL in humans). time for "laser treatment." can't believe she didn't paw the doggles off her face.

Know those treatments well.
Are you doing the water treadmill too?
These users thanked the author rkovars for the post:
yup, i'm sure it does. we're doing physical manipulation, obstacle courses, stretching, massage, ultrasound and laser, andassisi loops. much of that we do at home as well (not the laser).
but no, no water treadmill. she also has heart issues (DCM) and they feel like it would put too much stress on her heart.
plus, she's a big wimp and hates getting wet. if it's drizzling outside, she'll look at me like, "nah, i can hold it. all night if i have to."

^^^^ I think I need to cut back on the Christmas cheese and beer.
Until I re-read your post my thought was “You’ve borrowed someone’s dog to go and chase peasants?”

here's the dog lying in the mess she made christmas morning. she stole every piece of wrapping paper and tore the snot out of it. and if we didn't open fast enough for her, she'd try to take the presents from us. she was a madwoman on a mission to destroy wrapping paper/boxes. somewhere under all that mess are the toys she got for xmas.

Zeppelin has been off his food, vomiting when he does eat and has lost a lot of weight. He’s been diagnosed with a tumour in his intestines with not much that can be done.
He’s home now and we are trying to make things the best for him, but once his quality of life starts to deteriorate we’ll need to take him to the vets for the last time.
I don’t think I’ll have the time to teach him to play chess after all but he wasn’t showing a lot of promise in learning anyway.
