Re: Show your pet!
Lost this gorgeous boy today. He was 16 back in December!
It was lovely to be able to say goodbye as a family. We were all there to collect him as a pup and we were all there to be with him at the end.
Going to miss him dearly.

Re: Show your pet!
^^^^ So sorry to hear, Steve.
Much as he was a pet, I'm sure he was nevertheless a member of the family and a sad loss to bear.
Having lost Davie (my greyhound) coming up for a year ago, now I have enormous empathy with you.
Stay safe.

Re: Show your pet!
My condolences, Steve. Eight years ago, my daughter had to write a school essay shortly after our first dog passed away, a gut wrencher for all of us. Her essay discussed our dog's passing and her feelings of loss and profound sadness, but also emphasized how much joy we experienced with him. She ended with the words, "I've learned that the most important thing about death..is the celebration of life."
Reading your post made me want to dig through the photos of our old guy:

Re: Show your pet!
^^^ My thanks to you all for the kind words.
I must admit, we’ve been expecting this day for a while but I’m surprised by how hard it’s hit me! Especially this morning, as I got up for work and he didn’t greet me with his usual “get me my medication and some food to wash it down with now” bark from the front room!
Bident, I’ll definitely have to take on board your daughter’s wise words. Thanks.

Re: Show your pet!
The loss of a faithful pet leaves a bigger hole in your life than you would think, even if it is expected. Those profound silences are the hardest. Take some comfort in the silences telling you that life was better having known him and having him in your life than never having him at all.
Their lives are just too darn short.

Cone of shame.... I keep laughing because it's just so comical, and then I have to apologise and explain again why the cone of shame is so important
