I don't think I've ever complemented someone on their hallway before, but I'll have to doff my cap to yours, Gary - beautiful wood flooring, antiques with real character, and books given pride of place.

Lovely stuff all round

Ok, so I think from all the comments I need to clarify something... I posted a shot in the patina thread of my furniture, which then inspired scooter's hallway thread (which I think is going great BTW). So I just went with the flow re-posted the same photo I used there (which inspired the thread) and another one I had which showed the entrance as well. Those shots are of the house we moved out of 2 or 3 years ago. We have 5 kids and once they left home, we no longer needed the larger house, so we downsized to something a bit more suited to two people, with occasional overnight stays from one or more of the kids.

Here are some photos of our current hallway, which is admittedly much more ordinary than the last one. The photos are of pretty poor quality compared to the last ones, but then we don't have all the overhead windows providing all that lovely light... You will however see some of the same furniture in both houses...

The next move is prompted by lifestyle. We will be moving to a unit at the Sunshine Coast with some fabulous views of the river, only a very short walk to the surf beach. No gardening, no mowing (yes!) quite a bit smaller again, but with everything in five minutes walking distance, ten if you stroll. And yes, the grandfather clock will be coming with us, although the bookcase looks like it could well be a casualty of the move. The kids are working out how they can fit it in...

^^^ can't quite tell from the photo, but did you have to modify the ceiling to accommodate the clock? Thats dedication if you did.

Well spotted, yes we did.... it was about 25-30mm too high for the ceiling. Someone suggested that we chop that much out of the legs. My wife’s horrified reaction was priceless. :)

The new place will have about 150mm of clearance over the clock, so all is good with that.

Awful, awful effort to gain sympathy!

Your new one is still bigger than my house, so no sympathy from me here! :)

Yes we know Nick @smegwina must have a big house, because his attic is massive!

That's still a smart gaff gaf.

Novel idea to reprofile the ceiling to accommodate your Grandfather clock. Must remember that.

Hope your move to the new abode goes well.

The dedication to the horological art is quite staggering when you re profile your ceiling to accommodate a clock.

Brilliant idea, superbly executed!
