Enjoy it!

The one and only thing I wanted to put on "our" wedding register was a leather chair. I doubted anybody was going to purchase it but knowing that everything else was for my wife, I thought I would give it a shot. She refused which irritated me at the time.

I know now what I want as a retirement gift; a comfy/cozy leather chair used to watch TV, to read, and for the occasional nap.

The chair and ottoman were a retirement gift from my wife. They are insanely comfortable, perfect for reading.

It was a birthday gift from my wife. It’s actually a TV jacket, not a smoking jacked, I’m guessing circa 1950s. It’s just a bit too casual for a proper smoking jacket.

Close up of the ascot, for good measure. It and the jacket were a bit of fun given to me by my wife for my birthday a few years ago. I’ve discovered I actually quite like the ascot. It might become my thing! 😂

Looking at your profile photo I get the impression that you prefer a finishing touch in the throat department: muffler, ascot, very smart :thumbup:

@jkbarnes
I love the look, Drew. Slight difference of nomenclature over here maybe (?) but I’d certainly call it a smoking jacket and cravat.

Interesting for you as a Francophile: whilst you will certainly know that “cravate” is a standard necktie in French, did you know that “le smoking” is what you would call a Tuxedo and I would call a DJ?

Néanmoins, c’est vachement élégant. 8)

Happy anniversary!

Make take away message from this is that on day one of your retirement you thought it was all going to be relaxing and sitting around.

However Mrs Drew clearly has other ideas and must have put her foot down….

“If you think you’re just going to sit there while I’m at work you’ve got another thing coming! I want you dressed and ready at the door with a drink when I get home from now on!!!!”

Good to see you’ve learnt your rightful place……

Surprisingly enough, it was quite the opposite! She places zero demands or expectations on my day. As she put it, “It’s your retirement, and you earned this time off.”

Now the truth is, the reality of teaching for her means I want to take care of everything at home so that she can come home from work with the only expectation being to relax.

That was always the joke, that I meet her at the door with a drink! I played it out that last night because it’s been a brutal two weeks here, and this is our anniversary weekend. As she came in the door, I swung around the corner, drink in hand, and said, “Hello Darling,” in the worst Cary Grant impression. She let out the biggest laugh - mission accomplished!

I don't know whether you had to make your own drink, Drew. It's not good enough. Your wife should be there peeling you a grape. :D
