So much choice. Thank you all for your recommendations. Budget - well, I can't afford £4,250 for a Breitling but I might be prepared to rob the piggy bank to pay for the LIMES, which I like the look of very much. I think the Clous-de-Paris and sun-guilloch patterns on the dial are very attractive, and I'm assuming that the (relatively) high price of this watch reflects the quality of its manufacture.

LIMES have only one stockist in England, http://www.pilotswatches.co.uk, at Birmingham.
I might contact them to get some more information.

I'm sure you are right. But what I don't understand is how a moonphase complication can work without a month setting. The Longines etc have a full calendar, so I assume there is a connection to the moonphase.

Longines and Limes use a 7751, whereas the Ball is based on a 2836..

Can someone explain it to an idiot?

I'd imagine they just attach the moonphase to what would have been the date wheel. the mechanism still likely has the date functionality, but rather than having a date window, they just use that functionality to deliver a moonphase window.

Their shop is only a couple of miles from me and I visited recently to look at some archimede watches. I didn't notice any limes in stock but that is not to say there weren't any. Give them a call as you say and see what they can do. Very helpful chap and most knowledgable.

Just like the Longines and the Limes above, my Dubois & fils uses a Valjoux 7751... look for watches with this movement !

Strongly feeling the urge to take more meds today. Made contact with http://www.pilotswatches.co.uk this morning, if I don't place an order with them this afternoon, it'll have to wait until they re-open on Tuesday.

The desired meds are one of the following:-
(1) Limes Pharo Full Calendar Chrono with Moon Phase (as pic above on this thread)
(2) Archimede Klassik Chronograph, or
(3) Limes Pharo Handwind with Power Reserve
Kip wrote:I don't currently have a mechanical moonphase as I have been hoping Chris would come up with one.
Rumor has it maybe 2012/2013.
If CWL is producing a "moonphase" in 2012 then I might be tempted to wait, but it would be a "Chr.WARD" moonphase ..........

I'll post again later if I come to a decision. :?

Three great watches IMO. I doubt you could go wrong with any of them.

I would love a Moonphase in my collection and I nearly went for the Longines above but when I tried it on I just felt that the watch was too busy and cluttered.

You love a watch, you pore over photos and surf the web for information and when you finally get to try in on in the flesh, so to speak, it just doesn't click and you have to walk away gutted! :?

Anyone else experienced the same?

So I would recommend trying a few on just in case the same happens to you.

I can really recommend the BAll..looks great in real life. The only watch i've ever sold that i regret selling....stupid boy.
(however,i know where it is 8) )

Problem here is they are discontinued and Ball's 'replacement' isn't half as nice...the white face is the better looking one imho and they are hard to find.
If you can read this you are too close to your computer screen....

Again, many thanks for all your input. Haven't made a decision yet. The Limes Chronograph/Moonphase case is 40.5mm x 14.3mm. That's deeper than my C4 which always seems quite "large" on my wrist (and I don't have skinny wrists!). So case size is something to bear in mind. The Limes Hand Wound Power reserve is only 9.2mm deep.

The more I search, the more brands I find offering "Moonphases". This evening discovered "Grovana" who have a few moonphase watches which don't appear to be so cluttered as the Limes watch, but I haven't found the prices for them yet. I'll keep searching.

And?

Which one did you go for? I looked at the Longines today in the airport. I could live with it. :)
