That's the one, Chris - a great road, although somewhat neutered by the 50mph average speed cameras.

I used to drive it morning and night every day for 4 years, although there were no cameras on it then - the sheep used to do a decent enough job of slowing you down. I worked near the Fools Nook pub - it could be fun in winter at times

^^^ Back in the early 90’s we lived in Chesterfield and I worked in Newcastle under Lyme, so I also commuted across the Peak District for a couple of years - via Bakewell, Moneyash, Longnor and Leek. A great drive in my Cavalier Sri! Fun times.

I must admit, when it was very bad in winter I used to go down to Derby, Ashbourne, up to Leek and in that way when the Cat was shut - I lived just outside Alfreton then so not far from Chesterfield. Funnily enough, in a Vectra SRi :D

When we were bought by a bigger company I was split between where your pic on this page is and near where Scooters ride was - I worked 3 days in Macc and 2 days near Shepton Mallet.

Thanks Patrick.

The photographs are taken from what was part of the old Exeter to London Road although much of it is lost in dense hedgerows. The stone will be an ancient marker stone but I have yet to decipher it.

My wife would die kill for a garden that size!

Yeah, to cut its about an acre - a real ball acre

Trust me, you wouldn't be getting out for half as many great rides on your little Monkey if you had to keep it cut for her - I am guessing that the grass grows just as fast in Somerset as it does in Devon, i.e. bloody fast!

Cheers,

Paul

I am not really complaining. We are very fortunate to have been able to move to such a beautiful part of the country and to be surrounded by our own land.
But I still harbour desires to get another bike and go off exploring like you and Downer!

Cheers
