Thank you for an excellent explanation. It sounds like a crop or a 360 degree rotation would accomplish the same thing. This still doesn't explain why it only seems to happen with this software, and not on literally any other internet posting platform. I appreciate that the forum is provided FOC to all of us, but there must be a better platform that is actually fully functional. It's any orientation issue. For some reason the EXIF gets messed up regarding orientation. Here is the best explanation I have found:
If you took the photo with a phone and the image is the wrong way up and you rotate the image in windows THIS causes the issue. Windows does NOT do a pixel rotate - windows updates the EXIF data ONLY. For example from NORMAL to Rotate 90CW. Many photo editors do the same.
But when the image is dragged from windows and dropped in the edit box of the posting editor (or the add file option is used) the image has the pixel dimensions of the rotated image but STILL has the Orientation = Rotate 90CW set. This effectively double rotates the image on the site when it reaches the site - result being an upside down image.
An edit will rotate the pixels and basically create a new image with the EXIF data correct. It doesn't explicitly have to be a crop. Any edit will do it.

Re: Post a picture from your latest ride
I don't think the 360 degree rotation would work either. The EXIF would still be wrong. This has been an issue on almost every board I have been on for a really long time. Where there isn't an issue I think they are doing a lot of image processing outside of the board before a photo gets posted. This may or may not take 3rd party software. I don't know enough about it. I think that it really boils down to the fact that there is really no internet standard on how to handle photos and so all of the phone manufacturers do it in different ways.Lavaine wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 6:56 amThank you for an excellent explanation. Out on The Monkey for a few hours chalking up another 92 miles.
When I got off I was walking just like John Wayne used to.
Fact: He never actually said 'get off your horse and drink your milk'.

Although a little cooler this afternoon there was no excuse not to go out on The Monkey for a bit of fresh air.
Forty two miles later I was back home with a smile on my face.
