A couple of years back I had an operation on my lower back, to correct an unfortunate injury that meant I was unable to walk very far. Prior to this injury we used to walk in the Peak District a lot, and I’ve always been particularly fond of the ‘great ridge’ walk from Mam Tor to Lose Hill.

Since my op I’ve been steadily increasing my walking distances and am now regularly walking 5 miles or so. Not huge distances by any means but certainly a world away from where I was a couple of years back (half a mile was beyond me then).

My aim for this year was to walk between the two peaks and back again, a distance of 5 1/2 miles or so. I did this a couple of weeks ago, when I had a week off work. I thoroughly enjoyed it, almost as much as I enjoyed the pint in the Cheshire Cheese pub in Hope afterwards.

Oh that’s me for now. When I spoke with the surgeon pre-op I said that I just wanted to get back to walking a couple of miles at a time. I’ve far exceeded my expectations so that’ll do for me.

My wife and I took her cousin's daughter for a walk near our house to enjoy the view:

Pleasant day in the Bournemouth area, possibly the last pleasant day we'll get. We took the chain ferry from Sandbanks, and went to Corfe Castle and then Swanage
