Meeting the big man on Saturday. Trying to think of a way to see the Northern Lights but with a couple of little ones with us it's going to be tough keeping them up long enough to go and see them.

The rain of the past few weeks has gone, for the moment.

Today for a local walk - a sunny morning, with a clear blue sky, 2c temperature and the field paths still just about frozen.

Bradgate Park in Leicestershire, one time home of Lady Jane Grey, nine days queen. The parkland was left to the people of Leicestershire, and has free running fallow deer. The house is now a ruin. A small river, the Lin, runs through the park.

On our return today from Essex, my wife and I stopped off at Hughenden Manor, Buckinghamshire, for a late afternoon stroll around the beautiful gardens and Woodland walks.

Owned by the National Trust, this was the country home of the Victorian statesman Benjamin Disraeli, a most unlikely Victorian Prime Minister. Benjamin Disraeli, lived here from 1848 to 1881.

Hughenden Manor also has a secret wartime past revealed in Second World War room in the cellars.

Well worth the visit.

Southwold from the pier, and then about half an hour later the skies cleared, and the second picture is on Dunwich beach looking back towards Southwold. You can see the lighthouse in the town if you zoom in!

Pleasant walk with good friends on Sunday, out for a couple of hours and ending up you know where…

The aurora borealis isn’t often seen as far south as Oslo, but yesterday it could be seen here.

It’s the first really nice day for a while, at least when I’ve been free. I walked the long way into Dibley and popped into the church to take pictures including the mediaeval rood screen, font and rather fine old strong box. There were some little deer on the edge of the wood. I know I moan sometimes, especially if the weather isn’t great, but there are worse places to live.
