I'm a bit selective about youtube watch channels. There are some I will absolutely not watch at all and some I'll watch completely on autopilot, and there are some where I'll look at the title, look at the background image and think maybe no or maybe yes.
I'm watching a Peter Kotsa episode at the moment and although he's calm and never shrieky and I don't think he ever recommends anything from the last, current or next Aliexpress sale. But still I don't watch all of his stuff.
This one: "I've stuffed up" I'm most of the way through
and it's resonating with me: "buy what works for you, not for the other guy", "sometimes we make mistakes and yes, sometimes it costs money when we make mistakes".
I know I've done it with several watches, maybe somewhere between six and a dozen; some of the costs have been monetary but some of them have been emotional too.
As I slide towards my 70th birthday I ponder whether it's fair to burden my family with a pile of "dad's old watches" after I'm gone**. Also I now live in a world where, through no fault or cause of my own, I don't go out socially as often as I have in the past I look at my watches and more and more think that I should own them for the pleasure they give me regardless of whether I'm wearing them socially or not. I know I don't want to be making any hasty decisions, I don't want to stuff up!
** I think that "dad's old watches" might be preferable to "dad's old cameras" so the first blows of my axe are going to fall in that direction.
Peter Kotsa stuffed up, I've stuffed up, can't be just a Pete thing can it?

I’ve never heard Peter Kosta before and, yeah - I definitely like that he’s not shrieky.
On the subject of mistakes- I don’t call anything in my life or any of my decisions a ‘mistake’. Decisions are made under a given set of circumstances, and who’s to say the outcome of any of them is ‘wrong’? I’ve lost money on every watch I’ve owned and sold - does that make my time being a watchie wasted or pointless? Am I just carrying on making mistakes with watches until I finally get it absolutely right? And then what?
I never regretted selling my C11 - until I did regret it. Then I bought it back. No mistakes. Just a sequence of circumstances.
I think Peter Kosta should forgive himself his mistakes a bit more.

At that moment when the regret kicked in: that's the thing. We all sell with our own justification in place. Some go and are not missed hugely, the "need another one" is the difference.missF wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 4:37 pm I’ve never heard Peter Kosta before and, yeah - I definitely like that he’s not shrieky.

UPDATE: it had not been my intention to accuse anyone of making a mistake or to imply wasting of time: nothing more than to touch on that occasion when we sell a watch and later find that we want to replace it with the same.

I'm pretty sure Peter Kotsa is a photographer in Oz. I don't know why, but he never shows his face in his YouTube presentations.

Folders for sure but in a smaller way than yours. Medium Format in 645 and TLR forms (as well as folders) and Russian Rangefinders: way too many of them. Some look nice, some feel nice in the hand, they all have the potential of taking nice images. Olympus OM single digit (professional series?) bodies.NigelS wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 1:56 pmLike this sort of thing, you mean?tikkathree wrote: ↑Sun Jul 30, 2023 1:09 pm ** I think that "dad's old watches" might be preferable to "dad's old cameras" so the first blows of my axe are going to fall in that direction.![]()

The TLR and lenses deserve more use than I give them.
And you sir deserve a photo or two.
That's youtube for you. I wonder if he's in this image from his facebook page?

It's probably him, although I don't do Facebook. I commented that it would be good to see his image in one of his youtubes, and he just said it wasn't going to happen.tikkathree wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 1:59 pmFolders for sure but in a smaller way than yours.
