They say (phonetically) buwies. I've no idea how to spell bewies/buies/byuwies/booees?

I have this issue, thanks to Paw Patrol. My 3 year old is convinced that a rubber ring is a “bewie”

On another note, it’s not so much pronunciation but basic written words.

Your and you’re. They are different. Yes, it matters.

I thought this topic was going to be mispronounced watch brand names. :)

Bulova is one that has long annoyed me when people accent the second syllable instead of the first. BUL-o-va correct, Bul-O-va incorrect. Granted not everyone knows, but when those “in the industry” get it wrong it knocks them way down in my view.

Squale is one brand that gets me.

Is it pronounced Squale as in helium voiced comedian Joe Pa-squale?

Or is it Squale as in Squale like a pig?

^^^ when I first read the name I had it as Squale but then heard YouTube videos pronouncing it correctly so that’s how I’ve read it to myself ever since. I didn’t know the shark connection though.

It does, and if I were teaching grammar or doing my proofreading job I would be punctilious about it. Not here, however. I can usually understand what people are writing if they make errors of that type.

However, I will come back to my earlier point that we are not on a naturally level playing field in terms of language, even without taking into account those for whom English is not a mother tongue (their written English is often excellent).

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone? I don’t propose to start throwing any time soon. :D
