EBay introduced a direct payment process (which saves you the 4-5% PayPal fees), but they need to authenticate your bank details. It happened to me and I had a chunk of cash held up while I got it all sorted out.

I was very nervous about it (upload an interacted bank statement to a spurious website - No thanks!), but I established that the link they sent me to complete the details was on the same domain as the eBay customer services website. I discovered later that eBay had sent me a couple of messages asking me to authenticate my details, but I had ignored them at the time…..

Once, I was reading about digital banking trends. I found this guide from Dashdevs on how to create a digital bank, which explains why some platforms are now requiring more user data. However, PayPal's handling of this seems extreme.

At the time I might have posted out my experience here. Let me see if I can find the details.
Thanks for sharing your experience, which helps clarify things. I’d also be nervous, but it’s good to know it’s part of eBay’s legit process!

I've phoned paypal in the past to discuss an issue and get their advice etc and I'd say the service I received was pretty good. I'd be confident that you'd be able to phone to discuss your concerns. I'd suggest to anyone that starting from "I'm new at this and looking for advice" and, if you'll forgive me, also the "female customer in need of professional advice" approach.

And, @missF I'm now struggling to shift the mental image of you as the "Scots accent cheroot smoking Bond villain" hahaha
