Parcel Solution

Post by chrisjohnson »

With more and more online shopping for price and convenience how do get round picking stuff up from the sorting office when that damn card is pushed through your door?

This isn't foolproof but it is a pretty good option.

I have had one for three years and its only problems are;

Postie needs a signature for special deliveries ( i live in a rural area and know the posties reasonably well so 50% of the time they will put the package in the box)

Second delivery cannot be made as box is already locked.

Parcels bigger than the box.

i ship to the office.

the USPS now has a program you can sign up for in some places (including where i live) that they deliver to a box outside the post office, then email you a special code you can use to open that box.

I rent a drop box at a UPS store. They sign for everything and I can pick mostly up at my convenience.

I find one of these terribly useful:

saves on wearing watches as well - I just ring and he comes and tells me the time.

no point in buying a C900 then - he'd get the pleasure of wearing it, not you!

Having a stores department at work whose main job is to accept incoming parcels is very useful - especially if they need to be hidden :silent:

My apartment building has a doorman, saves me the trouble of sending packages to work.

Prior to my current building, my super would sign packages for me. He would get a nice holiday tip at the end of the year for all the packages he signed as I'm a Amazon Prime consumer, I take full advantage of the free 2 day shipping!

If I sent a Special Delivery and found out the postie just left it without signature then I would be complaining to his boss.

Alasdair, why do you keep a pet haddock in a DJ?

I have watches sent to work. The school sec. always emails me..."one of your little packages!" :D

My parcel solutions are:

a) Rearrange delivery for a day I am in; or
b) Collect from my local Post Office.

Nifty solution to the postman problem. I find that Mrs Loddonite serves the same purpose. She's a bit more expensive though.

We used to have a butler school run at the manor in our village - great fun...

I have to admit to being very lucky - I work from home, and had a very well trained postman - who would find me in the village / deliver to me in a local field / or at my godson's house etc. - when he left - he trained the new chap, so the level of service continues... when my C20 was returned last week, he delivered it to me by flagging me down as I drove out of the village...

in fact royal mail service round here is very different to how many describe it in cities - no issues :)

and we now have most of the courier companies well trained as well!
