Northern Lights may be visible Wednesday and Thursday

Post by thomcat00 »

A moderate coronal mass ejection could grace us with Northern Lights this coming week.
The northern lights are coming to several states this week. Here's how to watch

I may need to stand on a chair here in Cornwall.

Have you a La-Z-Boy? You could be in luck if the weather is right. I’m at 42°N and the aurora could be visible to about 39° N. If you’re near 50° you’re in the zone.

^^^ it sounds like the sort of thing I used to write in school reports until we were told we had to be nice to the little blighters.

I confess I had to look up a 'la-z- boy. Initially I assumed it was an electrical device used to aid stargazing. Anyway, it is atypical July evening here in Cornwall: 16 degrees and a blanket of low cloud.

Ooh! I’ll be on Cape Cod, which is about 42°! I hope the weather is clear.

Good luck to those aurora spotting this week. Something I’ve always wanted to see. We had a family holiday in northern Finland when my son was much younger, spent every night outside our log cabin hoping for a glimpse. Very excited one night, thought we could see a green glow on the horizon….turned out to be the street lighting from the next village along from ours 🤦‍♂️

Genuinely excited by this, but then I realised it's USA based!

I hope if you’re at 45°N with a clear and dark night you’ll be able to see the show anywhere. :)

Hoping for clearer skies, with or without a recliner. ;)

Solid cloud deck for me rolled in at 5pm and the thunderstorms began an hour later. Skies cleared just before sunrise.

Dang, the solar storm is dramatically weaker. According to AuroraWatchUK, it’ll possibly reach to Devon. In North America, barely to the US border with Canada.
