Re: no internet at home? good thing???
it's really interesting reading all your thoughts - thanks!
my initial thoughts were revolving around the 'could-just-leave-the-computer-switched-off-but-would-i?' conundrum.
given that i found that i couldn't just leave a tv switched off, i feel the same is true for the internet, and i may on balance be better without it at home.
but we do live in a connected world, and my thoughts on reading your thoughts now have to do with how do we choose to stay connected, and what in fact do we need to be connected for?
chrisw - thank you so much for your thoughts. isolation can of course be a big problem when you're dealing with a psychiatric head. but i suppose this works both ways for me - isolation could mean not being able to easily communicate with the outside world, but i can be as isolated staring at a screen on the days when i can't get out the house. having to go round the corner to use the internet may keep me more 'out in the world' now that i'm living on my own.
i'm a bit sorry that this has turned into blurb about my life, rather than just my internet needs!!! however - these are the balances i'm trying to draw up.
(i was actually kind of expecting korkki to come along and remind me that i couldn't possibly do without youtube 10 hour clips of animated cats........ )

YouTube is a winner all the way around it can make you laugh cry & scream & that's just watching 1 clip . And then there's kittens puppies & "babies" if you really need to go there but it's the best pick you up you'll ever need ? . Stay connected it will be the only way to vent when you need to as well & don't forget booking appointments is coming more & more popular on the net now .
P.s & I just found out literally as i typed this reordering prescriptions for med,s my GP just informed me , But I do have a younger tech savvy GP who uses his computer for everything.

Can't imagine life without it now. Properly used it is a great boon and a benefit. I control it rather than it control me. You could always try for a while; you can even have it installed and turn it off.
Re: no internet at home? good thing???
In theory it's a good idea. In practice, I think my brain would quickly realise it's a trap and immediately set to work searching for an alternative time-wasting activity.
Re: no internet at home? good thing???
I lived without TV (well I didn't have a license but I could watch DVD's) and a proper internet connection (again I had 3G on my phone for emergencies) for nearly a year when I first moved to London a few years ago. The internet is an incredibly useful tool but how often do I make the most of it? Generally I spend more time looking for something interesting or funny than actually getting anything out of it, same with the TV. But the lure of them I find is too great to resist. Without the possibility of either I found I was much more productive with my free time (reading, actually listening to music rather than having it on as background noise, going out and doing things in the real world). My girlfriend later moved in and needed to work from home with a proper internet connection so now I am back on it Definitely a worthwhile experiment though.

well, my winter is sorted - will set up my sales page for pink 'watch protection devices' soon......
(trouble is that 'pink watch protection' makes me think of something else entirely that would keep your watch dry too..... )

And how are you gonna set up a sales page and monitor your business without an internet connection at home?missF wrote:well, my winter is sorted - will set up my sales page for pink 'watch protection devices' soon......
