New Smartphone Suggestions
Re: New Smartphone Suggestions
If you wanted some tuppence worth from me I have had a few phones and I always go back to HTC. The HTC one i amazing, my current handset, works well in every way especially the camera, the screen is amazing and the beats audio tops the whole thing off nicely. You cannot go wrong with Android though, can't get on with apple, I still have a 5s because y employer insists on it being my work phone for secure emails etc.
Motorola are good vfm with android but you cannot beat the aluminium body of the htc one.. it is the best looking phone out there.
Ferg has one too I think, he will probably testify its virtues as well. One of these popped up on TZ for about 200 as an unwanted upgrade and its a lot of tech for the money, you may be able to get one.

Re: New Smartphone Suggestions
Motorola is currently owned by google themselves. Which means they get the latest updates as per the nexus device. Won't be for too much longer as Lenovo are buying them off google.

Strong support for the Moto G , so that's the most likely I think. Will have a look at the refurbishished options too , just to satisfy my interest.
Thanks all, for the advice
Would love an HTC One or mini, but might be a looooong wait to get within the budget

& the reason I would use amazon is if it is faulty & the seller does a flip in a week . You still have some sort of warranty

Re: New Smartphone Suggestions
Last month I was forced to move from iPhone 5 by the IT dept due to supposed security issues (but my own research shows that Apple have been steadily bolstering their corporate security, so seemed a dumb move to me).
I was supplied with a Blackberry Z30. I wasn't happy because of lack of apps - especially a couple of speciality ones I use in my job. The latest release of the OS now supports Android apps so I've shoehorned some on there, hence a little happier now.
After spending a few days playing and rewiring my brain circuits I'm now happy with the GUI - it's very fluid and slick. The 5in screen is great and almost borders on phablet size. It can be picked up quite cheap I think and I'll vouch for it as an alternative to IOS and Android.
If BB had had this 2 years they may have stayed out of the sh1t!

Re: New Smartphone Suggestions
If you value battery life, try an Xperia SP which can be bought for under £200 quid (currently £185 on EE PAYG). It's fast, takes good pics, has expandable memory, isn't not bogged down with bloat and has a proper camera button along with a cool flashing LED strip thing so you never miss a notification.
The problem with any Android phone is lack of privacy and having ads shoved in your face at every possible opportunity. Basically, Google are a bunch of shysters who want to know everything about you. An alternative proposition is the new BlackBerry OS10 as it runs Android apps without giving them access to all your data and info. The Z10 can be had for under £200 from the Carphone Warehouse, it's not the best but it's the cheapest.

I'm just into week 2 with a Moto G, and so far so good. It's obviously a budget phone so there are some restrictions, such as no NFC and no expandable SD storage, but if you use you phone as a......phone, then it'll do you just fine. It seems to whizz along pretty well, no noticeable lag in apps so far. For the money, the spec is as good as you'll find, so it's a big +1 on the Moto G from me.

I am a Luddite and I hide from IT. BUT I made the same move six months ago to a (bought) iPhone 4S and endorse every word.jmarchitect wrote:Having recently ditched the Crackberry in favour of the iPhone 5s, I cannot believe I did not make the move sooner.

Re: New Smartphone Suggestions
IM in the exact same boat as highway (same budget), I currently have a Samsung galaxy pro which is great, with a qwerty keyboard, touch screen and a really good battery life. After three years though the batterys best days are behind it, i think i will go with the Moto g - it was already top of the choices but now the forum seems to have comfirmed it although will look into the Xperia sp.
I wish there were more qwerty keyboard smartphones out there (dont want a gooseberry), touch screen sucks

Totally agree, there haven't been any decent qwerty mobiles on Android for years. The US gets its fair share but those models never reach these shores.Dancematt wrote: I wish there were more qwerty keyboard smartphones out there (dont want a gooseberry), touch screen sucks
For what it's worth, you can't beat a BlackBerry for messaging and their keyboard is the best (I'm typing this message on one now). And more phones should have an optical trackpad instead of jabbing at the screen to desperately position the cursor for editing text.
And proper call buttons.

You said it, very hard to edit text on an Iphone in comparison. i havent ever really considered blackberrys, i dont really get on with their operating systems.CBMVic20 wrote:Totally agree, there haven't been any decent qwerty mobiles on Android for years.
