I am assuming that if people of such excellent taste prefer the Nespresso then it may be the best...

Nespresso tends to be the best if it is purely coffee you want without going the whole bean to cup regime.

Tassimo has very good coffee, but also does hot chocolates, chai lattes, caramel coffees, teas etc.

We have the Tassimo and it is used every day.

I can have any drink in the Tassimo arsenal in under two minutes from walking into the kitchen (this time is for "complicated" ones with warmed frothed milks etc)

For coffee only, it is less than a minute.
It is self cleaning.
The Tassimo also uses the bar code reader to change the settings automatically for every drink.

I also like the new dispenser disk that means you can use it as an instant boil kettle to dispense instant boiling water.

For me the Tassimo is the best all round machine, due to the fact that the coffee is almost as good but it has all the other stuff!

For just coffee, I would suggest the Nespresso.

I tried one of the other machines - tassimo, I think. It was nowhere near as good as Nespresso in my opinion.

When I visit offices in France and Italy, most of them have a Nespresso machine... Enough said.

Maybe bucks the trend a little but I will stick with my Tassimo machine. Good coffee quickly and machines are not expensive (£30 for my last one). Coffee is well priced, although I usually buy while its on offer or while we are on holiday in France.

Maybe not paying for George Clooney saves some money they don't have to charge on the machines? Actually that sounds sort of familiar!!

Thanks for all the advice, guys! I went out and bought the Inissia machine after work today. I have tried a couple of coffees, and I'm very impressed. I don't dare have any more or I shan't sleep! :D

I bought a purple one, though it looks more blue, because they were doing a price matching thing and it was £20 cheaper than any other. It doesn't match anything else in my kitchen, but hey – I'm a bloke! :D

Amor Vincit Omnia wrote:I know there was a thread on Nespresso a while back. I am thinking of getting one of the smaller machines (just for espresso, not interested in milky stuff!)

My question is this: I know that Waitrose and others sell pods that are compatible, and I just wondered how they compare. I would find it easier to pick up my coffee than order it online, as I never know when I shall be at home!

All advice welcome - thank you!
Hi Steve,

Is your reason for a Nespresso so that you can start your own production of these?

Unlikely!

I thought I might start making watches out of empty baked bean cans, but one or two companies have beaten me to it.

I did some light googling to no avail.

Do they come with musical & the very rare olfactory complications?

Update – excellent!

This has to be the best coffee I have drunk outside of southern Europe! I have done a large order for some of the more intense styles, which I hope will be arriving today. That will give me an opportunity to sort out my favourites over a period of time.

Great choice Steve, my wife and I have our favourite capsules (Fortissio, Roma, Kazaar and Dharkan), but we're lucky to have a Nespresso Boutique in town where they offer a free coffee any time you want to taste (before buying there). My cousin orders a huge box every 6 months or so, her machine developed a capsule compartment problem and they shipped her a loaner machine and picked hers up to fix, all free of charge. Great coffee and great service all around from our experience.

The Roma, Kazaar and Dharkan feature strongly in my order, too!

I prefer the intense flavours as well. The special edition flavours have been good of late as well like the Cabania, and Santander.

I also like the Linzio Lungo for a longer coffee
