My idea for a watch dial.
Hello there.
I have not seen this done, and I think it's a cool idea.
A friend got married and at the wedding he wore cufflinks with his late Dad's fingerprints on.
I loved them and thought with the rise in textured dials it would be a great idea to have a watch with a Seamaster/Dune style dial, but with my Dad's fingerprint on it, he's still with us by the way.
I tried to do it via photo editing but failed, so asked my new best friend ChatGbt to Mock something up.
I guess with modern machining, it wouldn't be out of reach to get something made, I would prefer it to be a CW or something of a similar quality.
Or am I way off the mark, thinking it's a possibility.
Regards Steve

I actually think that's a pretty great idea, how you'd go about it is another thing entirely!

I quite like that! Whether it was an actual finger print of just the waves in a circular pattern problably wouldn’t make that much difference to me, as either would look good.
I’m equally impressed with the AI rendering!. Can I ask what prompts you used to get this product?

Clearly such a dial would be, in every case, a one-off bespoke project. I wonder how you would set up the machining and what the cost implications would be?

Re: My idea for a watch dial.
A great idea! I did once hear someone berating their watch for not having a GD PR indicator, but I suppose they didn't mean this...
Do I recall correctly that the Dune Aeolian dials are stamped? If so, I expect the same method would be prohibitive as a custom press would (I guess) be quite expensive. And it's a question of whether the press could be made fine enough for fingerprint details (you may be able to tell I'm not an expert at all on the engineering side of things).
The only other thing that springs to mind is the laser-etching technique from the Bel Canto Classic?

I post a few watch pictures now and then to a little Instagram account - 16 followers and counting!

I was thinking, perhaps 3D printing, but I have no knowledge of that process.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Tue Apr 15, 2025 9:08 pm Clearly such a dial would be, in every case, a one-off bespoke project. I wonder how you would set up the machining and what the cost implications would be?

Oh wow! That was way simpler than I thought. Impressive.

First attempt was this. I've only had the AI assistant for 1 day, but it's impressing me greatly.

Closer inspection and I don't think it would get past Omega QC. The lume pip on the bezel and minute track are way off. As for the Omega horseshoe at 12

I guess the answers right in front of your face, Just ask ChatGPT. You'll have a factory in Biel and 1,500 staff before you know it.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Tue Apr 15, 2025 9:08 pm Clearly such a dial would be, in every case, a one-off bespoke project. Still, it's a good bit of fun but I wouldn't want to be dropping thousands on one.
Edit: Just taken a look at the model name again. I think it might be a Seamessier...![]()
