Ouch that is a painful bill but on the plus side you know it is a good car and has now had a proper going over and fixing of the major issues so it should keep serving you well for many more miles.jimbo wrote: ↑Mon Dec 20, 2021 8:04 pm Hello folks,
I have a 2012 Mini one Baker street. it is used as a learner car. It is now on 187k miles, still on it's first clutch.
I just sent it in for a service (main dealer as i want to be above reproach should anything happen) well I have just been mugged.
it went in for I believe a new battery as the start/stop had stopped working (they do if bty does not charge up over 75% ish)
and I thought that was it.
WRONGGGGGG
they said the computer was not talking to the car, oil leak requiring a new head gasket, very sticky rear brake caliper... required replacement, new glow plugs as when new computer thingy dialled in glow plug or two fault code showing.... and that will be £2600 please sir..... gasp.... well the car does have a hard life, still cheaper than buying a new one, so coughed up.
Car went in working fine, no drips on the drive/garage, brakes fine ( i do a shed load of full abs braking (Mini brakes are brilliant)) started first time even when cold
top tip put some money away for a rainy day, cause they can be expensive
but mine has been a very good car for the life it leads

Dropped the car off at the dealer last Friday who diagnose a faulty control unit. Comes in yesterday which they duly fit subject to a warranty excess... Only for the fault to persist. They investigate further and diagnose a damaged wiring loom which needs replacement. Not a simple job given how much needs to be stripped out in order to replace the loom. Damage diagnosed as water damage and thus not covered under (extended) warranty... £3500 is the quote for the job
Thankfully MINI have just agreed to fund 100% of the parts and 80% of the labour so not as bad as it could be, but still a worrying couple of days.
Car is still with them, not expecting it back until next week.
Modern cars eh?

Known issue with that part of the wiring loom going so should as you found out be under warranty.
Very big job indeed !!
I had the fault pop up twice, once not long after I bought it and again the following year.
But was checked out and found to be okay.
Glad you are getting sorted mate
Excellent news !gannet wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 10:10 am
Yes the F56.
Did not know it was a known issue, I might've pushed harder for 100% labour too if I had. Though I won't complain too loudly, just fingers crossed it doesn't happen again to either of our MINI's...
Unexpectedly back with us yesterday - I think they must've pressed ahead before getting the green light - that or they weren't very busy
