What about the F54 Clubman ?
Same excellent quality but a much larger car than the five door F55.
Very good space in the back and a reasonable boot, not huge but adequate.
Definitely worth a test drive.

I guess it comes down to budget too, the F54 is a newer model so used prices (if that is what you are looking at) will be that much higher. We went with the Countryman for the extra space in the back (second car but 3 kids - ours is the 5 seat version of course). We looked at the 1st gen Clubman but the Countryman has more legroom in the back due to the more upright seating position.....

I also fully defer to Ferg's knowledge, but I would say that in our own experience the earlier non-turbo engines have been fine on oil usage if that means anything....

SWMBO doesn't like the old Clubman (it reminds her of a hearse) but would go for the new one if it was within budget. How does the new Clubman compare to the old Countryman for rear legroom?

I still get Top Gear Magazine - in laws subscribe for me every year for Xmas - and they are running a long term clubman. Overall very positive, the one thing that really irked them was the rear split doors, I quote "arcane two part faff to open and close, attract filth..and you can shut without grabbing their outside, inhibit visibility, they demand you park some distance from a wall or other vehicle so as to give them space to open...I loathed them ever more intensely".

As I say other than that a very positive review. They liked the idrive, preferred manual to Auto, thought the All4 was unnecessary.

My tale of woe continues....... :(

At work this morning where I am in the Security Lodge at the Main entrance in to the company with traffic barriers on either side.
I notice this Ford Focus trying to drive out the Entrance only lane......I pop my head out the window to tell her she is the wrong lane but it had dawned on her and she was reversing back to go out the other side of the Lodge as she should have done. All good so far....
She hadn't defrosted the car so couldn't see out the rear of the car and promptly reversed into the passenger door of my car !!
To say i'm **** off is an understatement....

That's not good Ferg, sorry to hear that. Hopefully you've got all her insurance details etc and get it sorted. Some people....

Sorry to hear, Ferg.

Suppose no Police around otherwise she may be open to a charge of driving without due care and attention, due to iced up windows / mirrors.

Did you get her on the Security CCTV? May be useful evidence.

I believe CCTV can't be accessed without a crime number, so if concerned, definitely report the incident to the police.
I had a driver go into me at Tesco, all was amicable, changing details, he accepted full responsibility and came into Tesco to admit it. But the claim dragged on for nearly a year after that, I wish I had been less trusting, reported it and accessed the CCTV.

Hoping you get an easy resolution.

Sorry to hear that Ferg. Assuming she works at the company, let the safety team know that they need to put out a safety alert about not moving with frozen windows. She could have run someone over. Bloody ridiculous and a pet hate of mine.

Much damage?

I was ragging this morning but ha e calmed down a bit. A message from a member here about something much more important brought me back down to earth. It's just a car, yes my car ! But it can be fixed.

Sorry for the bad colouring of the photos but I had to make them bright to show off the dents.
My best friend Ger who is an Independent MINI Specialist just checked it over for me there.
He said to definitely not get the door painted and as no paint has been broken, to go to a guy who is a legend in Cork for dent removal.
I saw him take a MINI with a rear 1/4 panel with loads of major dents and after about a week had it literally MINT.

On the bright side, apart from the mirror, it looks like all the damage is confined to the passenger door.

It could have been so much worse.
