Re: Minis
Are there specialists who'll do the motor/drive without the whole package?
But I recognise the dilemma with an elderly well-loved car.
I have spent so much on it that I need to keep it
I am not pouring good money after bad
I have done both in the past, cus I keep cars a l o n g time. But these days I err to the latter. Though I nearly wept when my 14yo 530 went! It is still going strong with a friend, tho'

Re: Minis
So sorry to hear your further woes.
Is it possible to find the sunroof parts you need from a 'breaker'?
If going for a replacement, a new one on PCP is very cost effective. Try and get with a minimum deposit. That way, in three years time, the deal and monthly payments should be repeatable. Don't burn your cash by putting in a large deposit.

This does assume that you want to replace the car after 3 years. If not, you can end up with a larger balloon payment at the end. But.... I am never sure what is the best way to go on these sorts of things. Pay to keep, or keep changing the car?
Also agree that there must be the sunroof mechanisms available whether recon or from a breaker. Having just spent all that money recently, it would be a shame to have to have to get rid if the car for a sunroof. (Also, once dine, this should last for a few years)

Re: Minis
Thanks Nick, I'd change it again in 3 years.
My specialists have another sunroof in stock, secondhand and not working but we might be able to make one good one out of the two or at least be able to close one of them fully.

Re: Minis
Good news, finally after much butchery and cursing and mayhem we got the sunroof fully closed today
It's dead as a doe doe though.
Going for a finance check tomorrow for a new F56.
Wish me luck that I pass

Best of luck.
I assume you've spent many an hour on the configurator and you know your exact spec? I spent a while on there when we considered one... Boy, there's a lot of customisation options!

Re: Minis
Many Thanks Richard
Oh I did, I had one specced up to an obscene amount of money...!
Sadly though it all comes down to the price per month I have to pay out so with initial figures back from the dealer, it looks like I'll be getting a very basic Cooper Petrol with maybe MFSW so cruise control etc. But I'm okay with that as it will be a hoot to drive and it will be brand new and a MINI and that's all that matters really.

I think in many ways, the standard Cooper petrol is the pick of the bunch. It has the essence of MINI-ness and enough performance - without the unnecessary fripperies (and associated cost).MiniMpi wrote:Many Thanks Richard

Wifey was looking at the Cooper SD Clubman (before she started down the Jag route)
The options list is terrifying.
They are big buggers too.
Oh and by the way, the one that she was given for a few days had the 19 inch wheels and was one of the worst riding, crashiest cars that I have ever been in!!!!!

I agree, basic is the way to go. Harks back to the original minis of old. Too many of the models are now just bloated minis in name only.scooter wrote:Hope it works out for you Mini.
I would be more than happy with a new basic Cooper.
