Cheers James ;)

Yes it's a cracking car the new JCW, wicked exhaust etc. but......the crankshafts are moving about  on the S engines so I assume it's the same on the JCW ones....quite worrying ! :(

BMW diesels all have known faults with dpf and flywheels... Twin turbos always melt the small turbo, petrol shave dodgy crank shafts, don't even get me started on BMW manual gearboxes and ruddy diesel swirl flaps.. They will never learn ha but I've had so many because they drive so damned well and deposited the odd fault the service in generally good and they admit fault often, I had 2 new mv4 ally's because they basically admitted casting alloys is a bad idea, they may as well have made them of Dairylea lol

Little update on my MINI, it's taken about 3/4 of a litre of oil after 1000 kms which is about the ball park for normality with this engine as per MINI themselves.
It's running well and very quiet, also pulls well.
Going to go another 600 kms so 1600 in total just to be sure regarding running it in.

Haha !! There is no doubting that this engine type, the N14 is made of cheese.....lots and lots of cheese...
But about a litre per 1000 miles is normal.

The same is quoted in the handbook for most Skodas; although consumption varies and can often be less.

Guy

PS > This is loads better than the 3/4 litre per 60 miles that Ferg was getting on his previous engine

Thanks Guy ;)
I've heard of some R56 MINI's not taking any oil at all, ever but it does vary as you say.
I'm still on a bit of a knife edge to be honest but it's looking fairly good at the moment.

A bit of good news with a small bit of bad news..
It appears I have quite a bad oil leak which may reduce significantly my oil 'consumption' when I get it fixed = good news.
It seems to be the Vanos solenoid which leak through the electrical connection, costs about €120 = bad news lol
But happy to have found it ;)

As a treat for my MINI as it appears to be behaving itself, I replaced the standard plastic dash panels with the Genuine MINI Brushed Aluminium option which also includes the interior door pulls.
They are quite rare and it took me over a year to track them down one by one. I'm very happy with the result. As my MINI was an early January '07 build it didn't have the 'secret glove box' as they call it so it's nice to have this now.
But one of the main reasons for getting it was to fit a CD changer in there as per a factory option. All the wiring is there so it's plug and play. I know it's very old school nowadays compared to an iPod etc but I like it.
Saving up for a second hand CD changer at present.

The demolition begins.....

Well that makes a definite improvement! The brushed ally looks much better than the carbonesque it replaces.

Looks waaay too complicated for me. I wouldn't know where to start.

Secret is out about the secret glove box though! :)

That looks cool, Ferg. Well done.

Good to hear you found the oil leak. Hopefully once fix your Mini will be 100% and a definite keeper.
