The latest in the saga........
Second engine rebuild this coming Friday :(
When the high pressure fuel pump was failing, it over fueled and poured the excess petrol straight down the bores which destroyed the new piston rings etc....
The car has literally been drinking oil the last month or more, in a two week period I think it drank about 6 litres of oil

Fingers crossed for a successful outcome soon.
Thankfully the garage is not charging me for the second engine rebuild.
I'm dropping off the car just before my holidays and it should be sorted by the time I return.

Very sorry to hear Ferg but I'm happy for you that it's warranty job and you won't be without her when you come back.

Hopefully this is the last of the issues!

Yup, sorry to hear too but seems like an equitable outcome.

Enjoy your holiday and you'll doubtless be looking forward to getting home and your Mini.

Thanks Guy ;)
I had really gone off my car of late, which isn't like me at all. I haven't washed it or detailed it for well over a month either as I was just fed up with it. The back of the car and the tail pipes are totally black from all the burnt oil and soot.
I'm looking forward to actually enjoying the car again and keeping her shiny too :)

Here's an older photo of my MINI :

Thank you ;)
The previous generation MINI, the R53 which I had before was super reliable. Maybe I should have gone for another one of those lol !
Saying that, when all is well with my current MINI, the R56, it is a truly superb car so I am really looking forward to getting it ship shape again soon.

Didn't I warn you how fragile the turbo unit is ferg :-) hope it gets sorted mate you know how I share your passion for minis

I'd love a GP or maybe another r53 cooper s .. Have to get the reduced pulley on it again with the miltek exhaust and Bmc intake like my old one, 212bhp and went like stink on the coil overs I had fitted, like the proverbial poo to a blanket in the bends

You did indeed ! ;)
Arrived home late last night/early morning and the MINI wasn't ready yet so a 2001 Golf GTI was waiting for me at the Airport to keep me going for a few days.
Savage spec actually, heated leather sports seats etc though and goes like stink !

Yeah, 1.8 turbo 20 valve.
Must say the heated seats were brilliant this cold morning driving home from work.

They are excellent in the Golf I have to say.

Yes! I have had them in three successive 5 series. (E39, E60 and F11) and wouldn't be without a bum warmer. It offsets the cold leather on winter mornings. 8)
