Manchester Watch Show 9th November

Post by iain »

I’ve had an email about the Manchester watch show. I’ve copied the text from the email below and the link takes you through to register interest.

Is anyone up for an afternoon out in Manchester? Depending on where exactly it is I might know a good pub to grab a drink before or after.

I was looking at this via the CW Events page only a couple of days ago, Iain and discussing it with another forum member.

A point to stress is that it is to celebrate British Watch Brands.

I'm free that weekend, so it will be a good excuse to attend. The last couple of years I've been to the Watch Pro Salon event around that time. It will be good to have a change.

Excellent - I have been hoping for some events 'up north', as I live in Cumbria.

I look forward to it and meeting some fellow CWF members for the first time👍😁

With pleasure Chris, I won’t even make fun of you as you try to drink the northern sludge we class as beer in these parts.

I’ve had a further update for this. Looks like the show is being split into two sessions to ease crowding. 12 to 2.30 and 2.30 to 5.

I don’t have a preference for either but if a few are meeting up for drinks and/or food either before or after then it would be good if we bought for the same time.

Still no venue but ancoats is fairly near the northern quarter or easy to access the cloudwater and track breweries and tap rooms.

Here’s the email which I’ve again copied and if anyone is definitely coming then state your preference.

^^^^ @iain

Thanks Iain, I received the same email this afternoon, and wanted to be sure of my views before posting.

Bluntly, they've moved the goalposts, and I'm not happy.

I was looking forward to a leisurely afternoon chatting watches, seeing brands and their personnel that I know, investigating brands that I don't know and meeting up with some forum members.

Round figures, it's a four hour drive each way for me, and I was thinking of staying overnight as well.

I'm now being told that I'll have to rush round in a couple of hours (technically two and a half hours but I've got to get in and out etc. It'll be two hours).

I'm not sure that it will be worth it. Am I being unreasonable or overly grumpy? I'm open to being persuaded otherwise.

You could always buy a ticket for both sessions? Assuming you’re allowed and are happy to pay £20 instead of £10?

I don't think you're being too unreasonable ... when I saw the details I thought that 2 1/2 hours didn't give much browsing/chatting time given that they are expecting such numbers as to need two sessions. So probably a bit crowded. Having said that, £10 per session is very reasonable and as Iain says, you could (possibly?) buy two tickets.
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left

I'm with you Guy - I was toying with the idea of driving down, but I'm a similar distance away and it really won't be worth it for a couple of hours.

If it's so busy I'd prefer they arranged a second date, rather than limiting the time so much.

I’ve been thinking on this as well and agree that this has turned in a rush rather than a relaxing afternoon. With the time limit you are only going to get 5 mins per brand if you want to see them all which isn’t long.

I’ve emailed the organisers to state this and to ask if this decision is final or might be under review. I’ve also asked whether may extend it to offer a morning or an afternoon session instead.

If I hear back I’ll share it on here.
