It's a HUGE puppy.

Post by Noush »

Temporary 'member of staff' at our dry goods warehouse (in his 'infant' stage) is this 'little' fellow called Angus, a Central Asian Shepherd. Quite the ancient breed with any number of other names and usually seen with docked tails and ears to stop even larger animals grabbing them.

The pic I took of him today on a pallet messing about with some plastic. For scale the pallet is 1125 x 1125mm (about 44 x 44 inches).
Angus is less than 12 weeks old. He weighs about 20kg. Apparently these grow sometimes to 100kg.

Thought I'd share this one. Hey, happiness is a warm puppy isn't it?

What a pup! Looking at the size of those paws, he's definitely going to be a big boy!

With those paws he's like a ghost, just shows up from nowhere although spends a lot of his time eating and sleeping.
And absolutely walks with the gait of a lion.

He's a grand lad.

With the breed name is he a working dog, or just a loveable pet?

They are bred to be working dogs.
This one will have 5 acres to 'patrol'....and be loveable pet.

Angus' owner is disappointed with the level of interest he displays with respect to administrative duties....
Given his size you have to remind yourself of his age, of course :)

These are also called kangals.

I live in area where they are kept as actual sheep guards and are quite keen on it.

And yes... They can grow up to 100 kgs and can fight a bear, without any problems.

If you raise them in family, they are big, clumsy, adorable puppies.

If you raise them as they are intended, as outdoor guard dogs, they can be quite intimidating.

His owner gave me a list of about 5 names they are also known as (including kangal), apart from the generic.

Current update at about 16 weeks I think, he is now 33kgs thereabouts. And yes, a big boy. I swear he has a nap and wakes up 2 inches longer....
Gosh he does some funny stuff :)

big boy.

we have a 6 yr old dane who's a little on the small side at 110lbs. a couple of years ago, we met a dane puppy on a walk. he was 5 months old and bigger than her, he was 120 and they expected him to end up at about 190. i love big dogs, but i'm not sure i wanna go to 190.
